    Its a hardware feature of a GPU which will remove the jagged borders in games..

    Just kidding.

    I assume you are talking about AntiAliasing, which basically means it is used to reduce the 'step' effect ('jaggies') that can be seen at the edges of objects in computer rendered scenes.

    2x, 4x etc refers to the quality of the antialiasing with 4x looking the better of the two but with a larger performance hit.
