Hello guys, I am a new member in this site. I have a problem last friday I installed a 8600M GT mxm card on my acer aspire 5520G. It was successful and works but the problem is every time I start the computer during the POST this message appears.

"ERROR: MXM Structure not found or invalid.
Reflash MXM ROM or add MXM Structure and associated callbacks to SBIOS!
POST will be halted for 30 seconds and performance will be limited to
balanced performance mode until this is resolved..."

The 8600M GT is the 256mb ddr3 version and bought it from ebay. It has acer bios, then I notice when I ran gpu-z. My card is just running more or less half only of the default speed for core, memory and shader speed. Example the default memory speed is 700 mhz, my current and maximum speed is only around 300+ mhz. Probably because of this error that's why I can only run the card on balanced performance.

It seems I need to do something to my system bios or whatever and I know that its risky and might result to corruption of the bios if not properly done.

Can you guys help me? Because I have no background on this kind of problems.

GUYS! I already flashed the bios to the latest version 1.33 using the windows 98 usb boot, it was successful but unfortunately it didn't solve my problem. I can't still use the card in full performance. The clocks are still set to more or less half of the default card speed.

Uh, you sure that isn't just automatic downclocking?

Sir, I am sure its not because the mxm error during post still appears and when I run gpu-z it still shows that my current and maximum achievable clock speeds for memory, shader and gpu is just more or less of the indicated default clock speed.

Though most people suggested me to update the system bios of laptop and even the guy who sold me this card in ebay, said that just update the system bios. And now I did it, but still it does not fix the problems.

Probably the last option I can do is to do update my video bios.
But the problem is I cannot find any video bios update for my 8600M GT (256mb ddr 3) most of the ones available are just bios for 8600M GT 512mb ddr 2.

Please help me guys, I really want to fix this mxm error and be able to use this card to the fullest.

NvFlash does not work, even the latest version of nvflash. Can you teach me a away to flash video bios like by booting on usb drive? Sorry if I am asking too much. Thanks again

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE HELP! I successfully flashed it now its on full performance mode even though I still have the 30 sec mxm error during post but its ok. Now from a 4.2 index score for aero I now have 5.8 ^.^, this really revived my old laptop.

Hmm, sir I have one last problem with my laptop, in case you know something about this code 28 error that I get on an unknown device on my acer aspire 5520G. The unknown device I believed is my dvd drive that suddenly became undetectable upon upgrading to windows 7. It cannot be even detected in the bios option, then as I was searching for a possible solution, it seems that the problem is with the matsushi.ta matshi.ta dvd-ram driver, because windows 7 does not have the driver for it even with windows update.
