Hi,i want to buy this notebook

    Acer Gemstone 5920
    Windows Vista Ultimate Edition; 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7300; 2,048MB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz; 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT; 200GB Toshiba 4,200rpm

But on some reviews i've read that when the cpu is stressed by games it becames very hot

    # Idle (CPU e GPU ) : CPU 45° - GPU 55° - HDD 40°
    # Mid load (2 gaming hours, no overclock) : CPU 75° - GPU 85° - HDD 50°
    # Full load (4 gaming hours, GPU overclock CPU max) : CPU 80°/85° - GPU 95°

Question is: is it normal? anyone that has a notebook with similar specs/video card reach the same high temperature?
    Thanks All :)

Those temperatures do not look too high to me. If you plan on gaming for long periods of time with an OC'd GPU, it's recommended to buy a notebook cooler.

Yup, those temperature is quite normal for 15.4" notebook, ok, some.

GPU will force itself to shut down at 110° so as long as your temp remain below 100 is "consider" safe.

Still, you should consider getting a notebook cooler to cool your parts down.

If I'm not mistaken, while that particular notebook has great specs, it's actually quite... crappy. I've read that the build quality is atrocious, among other things.

    Just an FYI.

You sure are mistaken. The build quality has been said to be so good I even took a walk to MediaMarkt to see one.
Gotta admit build quality is great.
BTW- wait till those guys from Acer forum who own it get you ;)
Haven’t seen one opinion that questions the actual quality.

Haha, really? I could've SWORN that it was the 5920 that had build quality issues. Stuff like it felt like really cheap plastic and stuff.

From what I remember, it was said that this model has great hardware at an excellent price, at the sacrifice of quality.

If I am mistaken and I'm actually thinking of another notebook, does anyone have any idea as to which one I'm thinking of? I remember for certain that it had an 8600GT, and it was around $1500.

No idea, but 5920G is quite popular here and there are many reviews on the net including one on our forum and none of them questions the quality.

I heard its build is a bit crappy...but for less than $900 it's an economic desktop replacement...if heat don't blend his plastic cover...

Any similar laptop(same specs max $1200) ?non acer possibly?

hay blurb atrocious in what way?i take it you have never actually used a 5920?otherwise you would have been a bit more specific,i have one of these and the build quality is good, design is not to everyones taste but for £769.00 nothing else comes close to this laptop for quality and great spec.
ps it would be nice if you could keep your crappy coments to your self as they have no use whatsoever

If you'll check my original post, I said that I THINK the build quality is bad, from what I have read. Also, I quite clearly stated that I may be mistaken. So perhaps you could read a little bit more carefully before smiting others down?

Now, as for specifics, from what I remember, I read that the plastic felt "cheap", for one. Apparently though, I am confusing the 5920 with another one.

And as for my "crappy comments not helping anyone", I was merely attempting to give the OP a heads up as to a possible danger. Nothing more. It's not like I was bashing him or his purchase.

    Try to chill out some?

I agree, of it's competitors, the 5920 has sub-par build quality. Although for the price, it's hard to beat.

Exactly what I was trying to say. From what I can tell, there's nothing within it's price range that can compete with it's specs. But that comes at a cost.
