    Hi there,

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought the Acer Aspire 6530G from Comet (£587.99) and was ready to do some gaming. However upon loading GTA4 I can only get 6FPS on the benchmark and the game is really laggy!

Thats with everything set to low and on lowest resolution. Also race driver grid is the same, everything set to low, low res, lots of lag. I am thinking of taking it back so this is my last resort! It has been like this since I bought it and updating the ati 3650 drivers (using windows update) made no difference.

    Here is the spec:
    Processor - AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-70 2.0 GHz Dual-Core
    RAM - 4 GB - DDR2 SDRAM
    Hard Drive - 250 GB
Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
    Screen - 16 in 1366 x 768
    Optical Drive - BD-ROM
Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
ATI drivers Driver Packaging Version 8.533.1-080929a-070986C-Acer

Nothing appears to be running in the background and I have even tried disabling the antivirus.

    Any ideas appreciated!!

    Stoddy.

GTA IV is just too demanding... Given your processor i think that's all you can get...

Now, about GRID, i think you should run it ok at least on medium... Maybe drivers? Or try patching GRID... GOOD LUCK xD

GTA IV isn't going to run good on that system. Grid should have a better chance. Make sure you are set to "High Performance" mode, and that your drivers are up to date.

    www.laptopvideo2go.com

Use that site to find a new driver. Make sure you follow the directions.

Thanks for the advice guys. I checked on driver agent and I have the latest graphics card drivers for my GPU. Im outta ideas on this one! I even tried Pro Evo 2009 last night and got some serious slow down in parts. I have seen videos of acer 5920g's running race driver grid better than mine is. I can only assume its the cpu?! I will take back to comet.

What does anyone know about the acer 6920G I like the look of that

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/503797/ACER-AS6920G/tab/specification

Intel T5800 CPU and 9500M GS GPU - this should be a bit better?

    Thanks for any help.

I agree with you the CPU isnt the strongest. But surely I should be able to run games on low settings without lag! Im taking it back now and its either the 6920g or a HP DV5-1010 for under £650 so think this will be good too.

    http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/475181/HP-DV5-1010

I has the T7350 CPU and 9600 GPU, I doubt its the GT its prob the GS.

I am happy with gaming on medium settings really so I dont need a monster alienware SLI setup on my laptop. Thats what the rig is for!

The game is simply redicliously badly optimized for anything notebook that isn't Nvidia x8xx(with SLI preferred)..

I'm shocked at how bad it runs at my desktop @ q6600 + 8800gt!

I suggest you wait a few years when you get a new notebook if you want to play it with any decent settings.

I decided to take it back and get the aspire 6920G with 9500m GS, im very happy with it, it runs GTA4 fine, medium settings, and also grid on medium. It scores 3666 in 3Dmark 06. So it does the job nicely.

    Thanks for trying to help.

my brother has that exact model acer, it is very good and well built although has pathetic battery life (worse than my cheap samsung) and is very heavy, the screen resolution is very low for a 16" screen
