I want to upgrade my CPU and GPU but I'm not sure it will work. I don't want to screw up my computer. I also can't find any place to buy laptop parts, mosty the GPU.

Can you tell us what is in your notebook currently? CPU? GPU? I have had success upgrading every component of my 5920g, and many have upgraded their 6930s, but we need to know what you have!

Check the Acer sub-forum for instructions, advices and suggestions. For parts take a look in Ebay. I bought my CPU (T9300) and GPU (9600M GT 512MB DDR3) in Ebay.

I have a acer 6930G. CPU is T6400 and GPU is 9600M NVIDIA.
-
I believe the 9600M GT is the best GPU offered for that notebook.

I've fully upgraded my 6930G and the absolute best you can get is:
CPU: X9100 or T9900
I've actually tested quad-cores and I can safely say they don't work.
GPU: nVidia - 9600M GT DDR3 ATI - 4650M DDR2 or 4670M DDR3.
The GPU you have isn't worth upgrading due to the price to benefit ratio but the CPU can be upgraded for a decent price. -

I found a NVIDIA GeForce 360M GPU. I can't find where to buy it from. It's the same size and has all the same pins as the 9600M GS. Does the CPU have to be for an acer laptop? I found several laptop CPU on ebay but don't know if they will work for my laptop.

Just because it is physically compatible, doesn't mean it will work. CPUs are generic though. What do you use your computer for that necessitates a CPU upgrade?

I want a more powerful system to play games at a better quality

The best and safe way to go is to upgrade the CPU to a T9xxx series. Your CPU is quite slow. The GPU upgrade will be more difficult to do as a better card is rare and I wouldn't recommended it unless your GPU has DDR2 and not DDR3 memory. You can check this by using the GPU-Z.
Your next best option is to buy a new laptop.
I am very happy with my laptop since by overclocking the card, I can play most of the games at max settings without AA. -

Well, you could over-clock the gpu to 625/900/1550 clocks (stock 9700m GT), and reduce the voltage of the gpu to 0.89V which will produce lower temperature at the same time.
If you also upgrade the CPU, I think you will gain an extra 10 to 15 FPS in games.
Although, right now, you can play most (but not all) games maxed out easily on 1280x800 for example with no problems.
At least I can.
But if you want something far better, then buying a new laptop with high performance gpu would be the thing to do.
Although, I'd sooner retain your present laptop and just buy a cheap desktop for more intense games. -
