Are you like me, addicted to FRAPS?
I feel compelled to run FRAPS always when playing games, even for games I know get great frame rates. For some reason, I get some kind of weird masturbatory satisfaction when I see good FRAPS numbers with my games.
Is there anyway to cure my addiction?
btw, disclosure: I have a crap HP-compaq notebook that I bought for $400 with an athlon x2 cpu and a nvidia 8200m video card. I pretty much only play games from 2004 or earlier.

Uninstall it?
EDIT: Another solution that will have you fearing opening fraps would be having the shortcut on wherever you open it redirect you to a webpage that has the nastiest thing you can think of.

So when does therapy start?

lol This is so funny, I used to think as long as the game runs well enough to play good enough. Now since I got the Sager I have FRAPs on constantly and if it doesn't stay at least above 30 I get annoyed. XD

I used to look a lot at FRAPS a few years back. Now I'm uninterested and as long as the game fluid it is fine for me.

A game doesn't feel right if I don't see yellow numbers on the upper-right corner of my screen. I have been using FRAPS for 4 years non-stop now I still don't get bored with it. -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I know the feeling LOL.
Although i can turn it off, I just couldnt -
Never installed Fraps for goodness sake, and never will lest I get addicted. Though I am addicted to keep on checking up the HWinfo temp sensor though...
-
LOL
Hahaha, nice one. I can totally see it! Fraps is a great program though. There are worse things you could be addicted to! -
The problem with Fraps is, it becomes more of an interest to get high fps than actually enjoying the game, which is the whole point of gaming.
-
I hate fraps. It's big yellow FPS counter just annoys me, even though im searching for a program to have running in the background at all times so i can record videos, where fraps, sadly, is the best.
Guess i could always just hide the FPS counter.
(Also funny topic lol) -
I used to when I first got a game as I fuss with settings. But now I don't so much. I adjust until I'm satisfied with the framerate that I'm comfortable with. And then I might run it later just out of curiosity. Surprisingly I realize I'm typically fine with anything over a minimum 25fps. So many people claim 60fps is the holy grail, while I can see the difference it doesn't bother me so much. Besides if you think you always need 60fps then you're playing the upgrade game all the time.
Regarding performance hit, even on older machines, capturing frame rate has negligible effect on performance. -
I keep Fraps open for monitoring my graphics settings in a new game. Anytime it's open after that is to take screenshots because you never know when a funny moment is going to happen, or perhaps a moment of "whoa, this area/scene/etc looks purdy *screenshot*"
-
I am not addicted to fraps, the yellowish counter does bother me a great deal, I use rivatuner instead to show all kinds of info I want to know while I game, particularly gpu/cpu temp and FPS of course.
-
I don't use fraps much but in game I have fps, CPU load, Turbo Boost level, CPU temperature, GPU temperature and RAM usage displayed.
As for -
*rasies hand*
LOL, I used to be waaaaay into changing settings to tweak performance v looks. But now as long as its above 24 its fine, and I enjoy the game
Still never could get rid of the yellow numbers
So guess I'm clean now
Still makes me happy every now and then
Yesterday I turned POP Sands Of Time, and I was running at 200
These little pleasures do the body well -
For FPS display, I just use console commands; pretty much every game has an integrated FPS counter (except MW2, but I just do without). The only reason I would use Fraps is for video recording, but I use WeGame for that. It's free, and doesn't impact performance nearly as much as Fraps even during high-quality recording.

Fraps is really addicting though. Seeing the numbers in game go higher and higher feels like a game within itself. -
