I don't know why, but I have an addiction to laptops now. I don't know why I *need* to have some of the latest and greatest, but I think some of it has to do with tinkering and exploring the possibilities.
At the moment I own:
Eee PC 900
Eee PC 1000h
Asus N10J
Dell Vostro 1500
Gateway P-7811FX
Compaq Presario CQ60-214DX
Desktops:
Shuttle SN21G5
Shuttle ST20G5
Homebuilt Desktop
That's 9 PC's. Scary thing is that most actually have a use. Why is it one PC isn't enough any more!?
edit: Uhhh, poll didn't work!?

What do you want the poll to say?
Edit: I added a poll . . . -
i have an asus a8jn, acer 4920g, compaq presario b12 (my sister's actually but i'm using it
), a crappy p4 desktop and my cheap built PC
Previously owned a sager 9262 and a m15x but sold it due to financial reasons -
Nine PCs is a bit much, I have to say; simply imagine all the power you're consuming, as well as the electronic waste produced. I doubt that it takes 9 PCs to even satisfy the computing needs of a professional.
As for myself, I have the two laptops in my sig below. One I keep at home on my desk, due to it's more powerful configuration, and the other (the T42) I use at school because of it's excellent battery life. -
I own an Inspiron 710m (portable), HP nc8000 (permanently at a desk + external monitor), Inspiron 6400 (smashed screen; hooked to my TV).
Soon, I wanna get a netbook or a small laptop; mildly powerful processor + dedicated video card + WXGA or higher screen resolution..
edit: eh, looked at my sig and I've got a Latitude C610 in a drawer somewhere, Joybook S72 is dead (shorted GPU), LG LT20 tablet PC went to my sister.
Essentially 4 or 5 laptops in total.. Also, sometime I wanna get a laptop/notebook that has a 3DMark06 score of at least one or two thousand. Either something really small or with a huge screen. -
I've only got one at a time but willing to pay double the price of a desktop for a laptop is enough to indicate my addiction
.
-
I have a 9 year P4 Dell Desktop
A 6 year old Dell Latitude Notebook
A 2 year old Dell XPS M1710 and
A 1.5 year old Toshiba X205
I used to think I was addicted to Notebooks too when I saw how much money I shelling out and how much companies were asking for their gaming Notebooks.
I am getting a computer soon but it will definitely be a desktop so it can last like my 9 year Desktop that's still going strong but can only play C&C 3. I've limited myself to only spending $2000 for any computer from now on. Not going to spend $4000 on a Laptop like I did with my M1710 and two years later need another notebook. Not doing that.
When you think about the amount of money you spend, you quickly lose your addiction. -
I've got an XPS M1730 (Which a friend is interested in, so we'll see how long I have it...) A MSI 1223 12" Ultraportable, a Sony Vaio UX380 UMPC, and a garbage Dell desktop.
4. Not bad. I also see what you mean about the different uses. I have one for each of them. -
Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I've got five machines, but only three see consistent use.
Two desktops, HP TC4200, Dell D620, Dell E6400. The older desktop (Athlon XP 2600+) runs 24/7 doing file server duties, the TC4200 is my drawing/notes/travel computer, and the E6400 does everything else. The newer desktop (Pentium Dual-Core E2140) only sees use when I'm at home, and the D620 is something of a backup/guinea pig.
Of course, you can have never too many computers... -
I use my laptop for everything (decently powerful and still portable).
However, I still do use my old Pentium-M (2x2.8GHz) desktop as a computing node. I just let it run for a week or two haha. -
ive had a p4 dell 3000 desktop and a home built desktop a compaq v5305 laptop a dell insiron 1100 laptop and my pride and joy is my newAlienware M17
-
I have a 2.4GHz Macbook, and a old Pentium 4 Dell desktop.
-
I'm addicted to tech in general. I tend to have a fascination for things I don't understand.
As for computers I have:
- the lappy in my sig
- an Inspiron 8200 lappy (kids)
- an Inspiron 9200 lappy (bought for wife)
- self-built 2.8GHz P4 XP Pro CAD workstation
- self-built 3.0GHz Q6600 Vista64 gaming desktop
- iMac Blueberry Edition (now sits unused in library) -
I also have a 5 year old AMD 2600+, 2GB RAM, 7600 GT desktop that is still working fine ... but I mostly use it because I hooked my stereo on to it long time ago, so it's good for the rhythm when I exercise.
Since I'll be leaving for UK in several days, I'll primarily rely on my laptop and leave the desktop to my dad who needs a bit faster computer to work on (he's been working on a very slow AMD Duron 800Mhz up until not).
Which means, I will have to backup the most crucial info from my laptop before I leav, on my USB stick just in case (laptops can still be fragile).
And since the laptop was purchased in UK originally, it's still under warranty for about 21 months.
Addictive?
It's a possibility.
I like technology and internet in general because I get most of my stuff/news from them.
I definitely need my laptop when on the go so I can work on my things.
I grew accustomed to using technology, and I could go on without my laptop for days if it's necessary (although in periods of not using my laptop, I find my day to be utterly boring).
I read books through my laptop because I can't get certain ones in printed form.
It's an economic solution after all.
We grow accustomed to technology, and no doubt we develop a certain 'addiction' to it (just like with everything used on a constant basis). -
We've gone trough 5 laptops in our family - 4 still work, never a single desktop
1st (broke) Asus for at that time over 5000 Deutsche Mark...
(it was quite good though, played Age of Empires 2 - Pentium 3, 256MB RAM...12GB HDD - about 8 years ago)
2nd Medion - was my mother's now with grandfather (needed a warranty repair, and my mother got a replacement Medion before it got "send" off)
3rd Medion my first own laptop. (still works, keyboard is USB though - ruined the internal one, an its not worth to replace)
4th Medion - my mother's current
5th my sweet little SZ71VN/X
(The Medion's are quite good and sturdy, but: Weight is a horror) -
I personally own only one functional notebook. HP8510p, family has a HP520. 2 other notebooks with dead mobos, too old to be worth fixing. I would quite like a 12.1'' ultraportable though.
-
Me:
XPS 1530 (first lappy' ever)
Dell Inspiron Mini 9
I have a Compaq Presario desktop, that I use when I need to, and when it decides to work for me!
Future:
Dell Adamo 13!

I have three machines:
-SLAVE I: self-built gaming desktop
-SLAVE II: HP dv5t in my sig
-SLAVE III: Acer Aspire in my sig
I use the desktop on a regular basis for most tasks. The laptops are not used every day; I alternate between them for on-the-go use. -
Only 1.
The one in the sig.
But ive gone through 4, so far. -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Pent 4 desktop and C90S
-
i just have my laptop, i didn't count the desktop cause it's not really mine, it's my dad's, and i don't use it anyways.
-
I have the m1730 in my sig, a MacBook Air, an MSI wind and a Dell Dimension Desktop
-
Eee PC 900 - For sale (any bidders?) (0%)
Eee PC 1000h - use for web access and lightweight HTPC in bedroom (10%)
Asus N10J - Primary use portable notebook/netbook (30%)
Dell Vostro 1500 - No longer use, will probably sell (0%)
Gateway P-7811FX - Primary Power notebook (5%)
Compaq Presario CQ60-214DX - disposable laptop for times when I don't want to use my Gateway or Asus risking damage (like around kids). (10%)
Desktops:
Shuttle SN21G5 - Home Server (25% - does backup, streaming media 100%, but also basic desktop tasks like home finance, web browsing, MS Office, etc)
Shuttle ST20G5 - Wife's Desktop (0% - wife use only)
Homebuilt Desktop - Gaming Rig (20%)
I've been thinking of ways to cut down on this though. I think I could get by with:
(1) Home Server - need this absolutley
(2) Desktop Replacement Notebook - need to be able to game without a doubt, and have portability with it too
(3) Asus N10J - Best little netbook out there, can't live without it now
(4) HTPC (Eee 1000h) for bedroom - already have monitor just use PC to stream netflix and TV (need a slingbox tho).
(5) Wife's Desktop - she needs her own, will not argue with that
That leaves us with 5 from 9 (or 7 really). But what am I gonna do? I already own them, and piece-mealing and selling my desktop parts won't garner me much money. -
Yeah I am addicted too I must say.
I have 3 notebooks.
Amilo Si1520 (Going to sale though)
XPS M170 (Although go 7800GTX GPU is broken)
XPS M1730
My desktop in sig.
Then I have older computers too, an old DX2 66MHz Ambra, Amiga 3000 and Amiga 1200. I love that Amiga 3000 of mine
Actually I am so addicted that I will buy a new GPU soon for my old XPS M170. It´s just sad to see it sitting there on the side of my XPS M1730. -
Just one - Dell Inspiron 1520. And I really don't see any need to buy another. It's portable enough, it's powerful enough. If I had an lightweight laptop or a powerful desktop I'd probably use them, but considering the expense of acquiring either one, it's just not worth it right now. And I like having all my files on my one computer. I know I wouldn't have things synchronized well if I had more than one, and that would be annoying.
I figure I'll probably get a desktop next though, providing that my laptop is still chugging along in two and a half or three years when I do buy another computer. The whole point of a laptop was the portability and the fact that at university you never live in the same place for that long; if my laptop is still holding out in a few years and I'm not moving that often I can just keep using this laptop whenever I do need mobility, and use a desktop the rest of the time. -
I realize you always need two PC's though, if you work with PC's enough. If you ever do an upgrade, reformat, or have a crash, always good to have another machine to download files or just use for general purpose until you get your main one up and running.
-
Yes definitely htwingnut. I use my desktop mainly as a workstation, though I game on both my XPS M1730 and my desktop. And when a friend visits we run Coop LAN games
Me and my friend completed Gears of War in COOP, Coop gameplay is the most interesting experience for me when it comes to gaming. Most fun too. -
LOL!
I thought I was the only one.
1) ASUS C90s
2) Gateway FX-6831
3)SAGER 9262
4)ASUS 1000H
It's a very unhealthy habit I am forming, but eventually i will either sell some or just give them away to friends and family. -
I am definately addicted. I only just got a G1SN and am already looking for a better one and I also have an Everun Note, a Gateway Desktop and an old Flipstart.
I think there is something about having a completely capable computer that you can take anywhere you go.
Laptops are becoming more and more powerful which simply adds to the addiction. -
Do broken ones count? =))
Then...
HP AthlonXP 2400+ (the very first one) - smashed screen))
Medion AthlonXP 2600+ - Fried motherboard)))
Packard Bell Pentium M 1.86 - Fried GPU (Nvidia)
Advent - typing from it now
PCSpecialist(Compal) - coming tomorrow morning)))
Well... talking about desktops... ohh, starting from IBM XT, then 486DX4, then Celeron433, then Duron 900, then AthlonXP2400+ & p4 2.4, then A64X2 5600+. Both AMDs still running))) -
Well I can have as many notebooks as I want powered on at the same time, I have the electricity so cheap, well actually it is for free that it is ridiculous
-
2 laptops currently, and 2 desktops.
Then again, I used to have more.
I like spares, lol -
I'm addicted to computers, I only need one laptop. I have a laptop, because it's a portable computer. That said, my family now lives of of hand me down computer parts of mine. |I would like to get a Lenovo X61 tablet for class though. It'd be sweet for note taking.
-
I have
12 inch asus F9sg notebook
13 inch black macbook
13 inch aluminum unibody macbook
14 inch toshiba portege s100 (software issue) waiting on notebook rescue to evaluate
15 inch IBM T61 (sold)
eventually they will all be sold except my 2 macbooks -
Only one.
The whole point of buying a gaming notebook for me was to do all I want, whenever and wherever I want, with only one computer. -
Outgoing:
Asus laptop
Toshiba laptop
Incoming:
Lenovo laptop
Desktop:
Looking at popping in a 9800 GTX+ along with some other upgrades -
I might up mine to two, if i decide to buy an HP Mini.
-
Thinking about it, I don't think it's unreasonable, if you have a family, to have three, four, or five PC's.
Home Server / File Storage
Gaming / Entertainment PC
Home Theater PC
Notebook for mom/dad
Notebook for kids (they can destroy theirs, not mine) -
lol. -
Only have one, but it does everything I need... I do have my eye on a few ultraportables though, especially the adamo.
-
It's gonna be a nice one!
My next purchase!
Cin -
nice cin lol i hate net books could be cause im 6'6 lol so net books feel like toys my M17 feels like a small 15 inch to me every on els is like that s HUGE but its normal to me big guys = big toys
but i have 3-4 pc
i voted
-
I only have 2 computers, my laptop and an 11 year old HP Pavilion 8660c Desktop my parents gave me when they upgraded 3 years ago. (little bros. use it now but I still use it once in a while
)
-
If my Nokia n800 doesn't count then I just have one laptop. I gave my desktop to my brother. My fiance has a laptop too.
-
*Dell Vostro 1700
*HP tx2510us - gone in a few days
*Acer Aspire One
*Macbook - wifes work PC
*Custom desktop 1 - custom built in 2004 for gaming, lasted about a week then became my wifes current desktop.
*Custom Desktop 2 - custom built in 2006 C2D danger den case sitting collecting dust.
*Averatec 2155 - custom built currently frankenstien'd (in pieces) used to be a file server and before that was my ultra portable laptop circa 2005-2008
I built both desktops and due to my long addiction to laptops I primarily use my 2 laptops for all my tasks. I do miss using my custom built rigs, but then again being able to pack a desktop like 17in and a near pocketable netbook works so much better.
