SimCity 4. Spent days downloading stuff from Simtropolis. Only reason I don't play it anymore is because the game stopped working correctly. As soon as I get my new computer, its back on!

hmm, has to be Medieval: Total War. (The first one, and the first game I played in the series)
I literally played that and nothing else, every day for 6 months.

Sure, I've been playing other games a lot too, but never anything so single-minded as that.

Medieval II: Total War has had me hooked for quite a while now. Before that was Rome: Total War (can you tell I like the series? :) ). Also I love UT2003/2004, especially back in the day when people still played BR IG LG 135/35. (If you don't know what that means, don't ask ;) )

Yes, Halo 3 will be the stimulant for many victims of this drug.
I will thrive not to be prey to this ''Halo 3''.

WoW. I played almost 8 hours a day for the first 6 months, and have two relapses since. I've been clean for over a year now, though!

o gez it would have to be counterstrike on xbox live. I would play that game all day and all night long. Kinda like many WoW addictions. I also am a recovering WoW addict. Ive been clean for 6months and counting....

Only reason my fingers bled was because we got a bit rough on face off mode, I got thrown into the tv, and my hand got trodden on.

Jeez, I can't believe no-one's cited any of the Civilization series. One More Turn syndrome ate away at me like a cancer from 1996 with Civ2 through until
I kicked the addiction to Civ3 in 2005 just in time to finish my thesis. Come Beyond the Sword next month, it'll be back. :D I must have spent more time on those two games than on the rest of the games I've ever played combined!

As far as serious addiction goes..it's Everquest 1 hands down for me.

I played it for about 3 years and all told I don't even want to know how much time I logged in that game. I didn't play nearly as much the last 2 years as I did the first, but if this gives you any scope to how much I played maybe you'll understand the phrase "addiction". There is a command in the game where you can see the total amount of time you have been logged on any character (/played) and about 1 year into my first character I was curious and took a peek.

The results were startling to say the least. In a 12 month period of time I had been logged onto this particular character for 42 days and change

It actually scared me. Nothing I could do though, I loved that game.

My current addiction, though a far less serious one, is Medieval Total War II.

Not to be smart aleck, but you do realize that had you invested this amount of time playing a real guitar you wouldn't have to pretend with guitar hero, right?

I mean probably not to the same "degree" or whatever..I've been playing guitar for 6 years now and I'm still growing musically. I guess that's part of the magic of playing though, you always continue to learn.

    Cheers

Diablo 2 (LOD of course) hands down.

Such an awesome game, at a time when I had alot of time.

Now I can't afford to get into a game like that...

I still often play Civ though. However the multiplayer never really captivated me, and that is where the real time is spent. D2 had me for hours.
