I love video game.
Cannot wait for skyrim or BF3.
Yet at the same time, I <3 doing video editing on
After Effect and Premier Pro & Sony Vegas.
I never use an ATI card for video editing?
Does it help in anyway?
I have a laptop order with 6990m.
I'm wondering if I should change it to a GTX 580m since
these card has CUDA which supported in Adobe CS5?
Please help guys!
Thanks!![]()

In my opinion you won't need to pay more, but there are some who would love to have that extra edge(CUDA), but it also costs more, so that would depend on what you do more, gaming or working? If its more of gaming then your'e fine with the 6990m, If you like to have the edge on editing with CUDA, then you can justify its extra cost.

The 6990m can easily handle all of your video editing and photoshop needs.... No need to pay 2x as much for CUDA.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Dunno about those programs, since I dont use them (I use photoshop, dreamweaver, illustrator, fireworks)
I dont see any benefits from not having a dedicated gpu.
However people say that Cuda in vegas is a good thing to have, however there is a caveat, unless you get a pro card, the decoding quality actually drops substantially while using a nvidia gpu. The best in order of good decodings are intel and amd, and sincerely, there wasnt a significant change in time using intel or amd, nvidia was a hair faster, but the quality was abysmal.
Check out the anandtech review of sandy bridge for more info regarding that. -
I have a ATi 5850m and I run this program just fine.

Unless you use a program that's quite heavy on CUDA and would be able to use your GPU to significantly accelerate your job (such as rendering in 3dsMax) and if gaming is what you predominantly do, then go with the 6990M.
I myself use 3dsMax and definitely need CUDA for gpu rendering, but I cannot justify the premium cost, plus I do have a tendency to game.
I dunno... maybe I'll get a cheaper Nvidia card such as the 560M, but seriously, the 485M would be better since it's more powerful. -
Well I guess if I had to put it.
I do gaming more than I do video editing.
I mostly use Adobe Premier Pro CS5, I know CS5 use those Mercury Render.
Which use selected GPU to render its video image.
Adobe CS5? GTX 580m or 6990m?
