Ok. Question. Do you think gaming performance of this system justifies £1000?

    MOBILITY 4850 (512MB)

Their website says it's got an Nvidia 9600.

Sounds a lot like a rebadged MSI GT725. If that's the case, then YES it's worth it.

But if it's the 1722 with the 9600M GT, then no, not worth it.

We will never know until we got the actual performance of 4850 in our hands.

We somewhat do actually, in the MSI section. So far, it's right up there with a 9800M GTX.

Its sort of like.... "technically... " based on specifications released by ATI. Hopefully its true and hopefully I can throw one into my notebook :X.

I'm basing this on actual numbers. Faisalhero and a few others already got their GT725s with the M4850s and ran some benchmarks.

Yes, it's not speculation anymore since faisalhero has been posting actual benchmarks.

So far it's on par or better than the 9800M GTX.

Edit: And we now have some comparison benchmarks from a 9800 GT -- the Mobility 4850 beats it by 13 FPS, which makes it 68% faster.

Nah, the issue has been somewhat resolved with a newer benchmark tool (I assume you're referring to the Crysis Warhead run). It's getting more reasonable numbers, but nowhere near that 68% figure.

Nah mang, the 4870 is the card you and I want wait for to upgrade. Otherwise, it's an eight month wait for the G280M. If the 4870 is around $300, I'll buy it either way, then see what gains the 280 brings later. Decisions, decisions.
In the new tool, the 4850 does beat my 9800M GT by 7fps, 12 to 19, so about 37%. This is also with my T9800 vs his P9500. I'm impressed, and I hope the 4870 is a beast.

It's definitely that much faster than the 9800 GT.

9800M GTX, it's fairly close, but still wins by a few FPS at least.

Well, if what we're hearing about the 4870 is true, clock speed should be 680mhz (4850 has 500), with 700mhz GDDR5 (effective clock rate = 700mhz x 4). On paper, this would be even more powerful than a desktop 4850, which is darn impressive.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding :D and thanks for pointing me out. I rarely check MSI sub forum so I don't know about it.

How about you buy the 4870 from me, if it's too hot in my M860TU?

Well, if it does, I suppose I could use a third card to test on other systems... :D
