My sons want a portable DVD player but I thought we would be better off getting a notebook -could do more with it, for a few hundred more. But I have no clue what to look for in a notebook, if I can even get a low cost notebook that will play games good & DVD watching as good as a Portable DVD player. If you have any advice for what I need to make sure the notebook has in terms of Graphics cards, speed, or advice on what i should buy, please reply. I wanted to keep it less than $600 if I could. Thanks

Thank you, that helps. What about the resolution on the screen of a notebook, should it be _____ x _____ dpi, should I be weary of a bigger screen with less Dpi's --for watching DVD's?

If he wants one with a decent graphics card to play recent games soemthing like the Compaq v4000t with the x700 is a good choice. You can configure one on HP.com.
