I have a sony SZ and I'm buying a PS3. I need to buy a display so that I can use it with both of these devices. I can either get a 22'' dell monitor with a resolution of 1680 x 1050 or I can buy a 26'' or 23'' Sony TV with resolution 1366x768.

What do you think is the better option? What will function better with PS3 and my sony SZ. I also don't have any speakers so hooking up PS3 to monitor would be problematic in terms of audio.

    Advice appreciated

You need to check and see what the PS3 outputs and what the Dell and Sony take as inputs. The PS3 also has a major scaler issue right now so you may have some issues there...my hunch is that the Dell would actually reduce the quality of the graphics (as it cannot output 1080p/i so the PS3 will probably downscale to 480p/i).

Obviously, you need to talk to a person who owns the PS3, but that is my impression based on all that I read.

well you'll get the most out of your ps3 with a 1080p set via hdmi.... but u wont get a 1080p set in the under 27" category

you can get an hdmi to dvi adaptor for a computer monitor but i dont know how it will scale it. so if you get the sony hdtv it will only be in either 720p or 1080i which will basically look just as good as 1080p on a set smaller than 27"

as far as my research the PS3 has problems with older Tv's that have 480i, 480p, and 1080i. It downscales to 480p and cannot display 1080i. But all newer tv's have 720p which is what it would display.

"s it turns out, gamers who own older HD sets that feature only 480i, 480p, and 1080i resolution input capabilities will have to settle for the display quality being downsized as the game boots in its 480p mode rather than upscaling the image from its more desirable 720p mode to the TV's 1080i. We tested this development on older HDTV sets with games designed for 720p but not 1080i"

If you decide to get a computer monitor make sure that if accepts 720p with out stretching, because I have a 17 inch and it has an "auto adjust feature" that stretches 720p content vertically to fit the 1280 x 1024 screen.

I got a westenhouse 22in LCD that I pick up on blackfriday last year for 200 and I can play the PS3 on this at 1080i. Mind you that this LCD does not come with an HDMI, I had to hook it up using componet cables
