I was just curious do you guys/girls after hours of gaming, just shut down your laptop after you exit the game or let the temps go down a bit first? I'm not sure whats better, shut it off immediately (no more heat being generated) or let fans and cooler bring heat down first? FYI - i do the second one. just wondering :)

I would say shut it down to let the ram get cleaned up and give your system a break.

Well as far as i know laptops dont have a thermostat/temp switch that run the cooling/heating system and fans until temps reach a certain point. this is why fans sometimes run when car is shut off  VS a laptop, fans stop when shut down, which was why i asked ? in the first place :D

I normally just use the computer normally (without gaming) for a period of time, then I'll put it to Hibernate.

    It doesn't matter as noted.

With systems that have low RAM (2GB), you might want to restart since Vista writes a lot of stuff to hard disk to free up RAM for the game. Therefore everything is going to be slow for a while when you are doing things so Windows can load stuff back into memory.

Depends what kind of car you're talking about. If it was turbo, i'd let it cool down. :)

on topic: my temps usually cool down pretty fast after gaming so i dont care what i do.

I don't think it matters unless your gpu is capable of 200° Celsius or above..

As for cars, the engine goes well over 200° Celsius.

Actually, why don't you get a good laptop cooler and let the laptop be cool all the time.

What difference is there between letting the fans cool it down, or letting the heat slowly disperse anyway?

Most cars run at 185-195* Fahrenheit.

I usually crank the fans up to high with i8kgui until the lappy is at idle temps. Only takes a minute or 2.

I will usually reboot after any gaming session to get rid of residual files left in RAM and avoid the slowdown that occurs as windows starts transferring files out of pagefile, etc. As for temps, mine are usually back to normal ranges after 2-3 mins.
The m1530's 9 cell battery works as a very effective (passive) notebook cooler, but it only props up the back. I usually put a pad of post-its under the front end to help cooling. (Yes, it works)

With the Nvidia cards I would recommend you heat it up a bit before playing (such as moving a window around the screen or playing with flip3d), then play the game and then leave it running for a bit after playing the game and then shut it down. The reason for the high failures in some of the Nvidia cards have been due to the card getting hot (gaming one time) and then suddenly coming off after such a high temp (coming off right after gaming).

Turning off a car immediately would just let it cool down faster, same with anything. It's not like when you turn off a car, the engine can get hotter than it's temp when you turned it off. Turn off a PC and it will get no hotter than it was before you turned it off. Why would you possibly keep it running in hopes of letting it cool down? Turn it off completely and it'll cool down faster than when it's on and has a fan blowing at it.

lunateck, if your car is getting over 200c, you should be concerned for your life! Most cars shouldn't go over 90c under normal operation.

I personally think it's a ridiculous notion that there are people out there who actually STOP playing games every now and then.

Haha.. sorry bout that. Was sure about the exhaust temperature (the gas just leaving the cyclinder) is about 250 Celsius.. but wasn't sure about the overall temperature of the engine.

Yea, but when you turn off your car, the oil, water and other cooling systems won't be running (and circulating) and hot spots can develop. So actually, it can get hotter due to no cooling and internal heat build up. But, not a big deal, I'm sure well within the design specs. Still, I'd let mine cool down a bit if it was me.

Same for laptops. Some cool better than others. Never hurts to let it idle a bit and cool down before shutting it off, in my opinion, if it has been running hard. I certainly always wait for the fans to stop on mine before I turn it off.
