Unable to make Custom Resolutions beyond what I can do normally on my laptop with the latest drivers. I keep getting the same old error message.
-

-
The only thing I can't do is make custom resolutions that obviously don't exceed the bandwidth (like 1080p70Hz), but the control panel says otherwise. Of course, I wasn't able to create higher custom resolutions as well that would exceed the bandwidth (like 2160p).Talon likes this. -
Beta driver that enables CRU is finally arrived for Christmas.
Only works with 4th and 5th generation on Windows 10 and only 5th on Windows 7 and 8.1. Usable only with cru not via control panel.

Guys, let me tease you a bit because I entrapped the way to overclock your internal notebook monitor even if you have 3rd Gen Intel HD iGPU. Anyone wants to know about it?
I will record a video tomorrow on my Ivy Bridge based MSI GE70. Pay attention that results will vary depending on hardware.jaug1337 and Ionising_Radiation like this. -
So the trick is to create a virtual display, then duplicate main display with the virtual and pick newly created resolutions of the virtual one. This method was found by Lintu. This method was tested on Windows 7 and 10. MSI notebooks, particularly Ivy Bridge based and other notebooks too however other notebooks may have different result with lesser range of newly created Hz modes.
MSI GE70 brough new 75, 85 and 100Hz modes.
Just follow these screenshots or video I gonna upload later.

I will post this info on Intel topic later today or tomorrow.jaug1337, ExMM, Talon and 1 other person like this. -
Hi all, Bryce edited his post in the driver thread to include the new driver version 15.45 (21.20.16.4590) for 6th & 7th gen.
These are the vulkan drivers and according to bryce it seems they should support CRU.
However, after nuking drivers with DDU and installing these 15.45 drivers neither CRU nor the intel graphics control panel allow for custom resolutions. (HD530, windows 7)
Anything set in CRU doesn't show up in the Windows menu of refresh rates, and the built-in intel tool still spews out 'bandwidth exceeded'.
Is anyone able to get these new drivers to work?i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -

I have been able to get the newer driver to work, but I was not even able to get 61Hz stable.

Don't know how recent that edit seems but I already saw " One more driver still pending release for 4th & 5th Generation on Windows® 10 [15.40] in the coming weeks" for almost a month now without seeing that promised driver.
IPS panels are not overclockers at all.
margroloc, did you try method I suggested? -

Hi everyone,
With Intel test driver "win64_154032.4568" I have success in applying 4K @ 50 Hz by defining a custom resolution with CVT-RB timing standard in Intel HD graphics control panel with following devices;
Surface Pro 2, 4200U, 4400 HD graphics
LG 43UH6100 4K, HDMI 2.0
Plugable miniDP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 active adapter
Amazon Basics high speed cable.
Not able to go beyond 50Hz though. Same 'maximum bandwidth reached' message.
The difference between 30 Hz and 50 Hz is huge in terms of look and response. -
BREAKING NEWS (lol)
Intel has posted the beta 15.45. 4614 (21.20.16.4614) which finally appears to unlock custom refresh rates for 6th & 7th generation CPUs on Windows 7-10.
I've tested this with a skylake laptop, hd530 with nvidia optimus enabled. Currently running the built in 60hz display at 65hz.
Grab the driver here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26604/Intel-Graphics-Driver-Beta-15-45-#
The built-in custom resolution tool still doesn't appear to work, but I used ToastyX's CRU to add the refresh rate and after a reboot it showed up in windows. Hopefully this works for you.
Haswell CPUs are supported too with a different driver: https://communities.intel.com/thread/78158
5th gen is still in the works apparently, but it seems they are finally fixing this problem.
EDIT------------------------------------------
60hz ---> 100hz, tested working. (damn son where'd ya find this)
http://s7.postimg.org/yhci84inv/screenshot_2017_03_04.png
Seems there is a pixel clock limit around 1080p 105hz @ reduced timings, beyond which the custom resolution wont show up in windows - at least for me. 103hz showed up for me on reduced timings but it caused artificating and then everything above 60hz also started to artifact. Scary but somehow I fixed it and then got back up to 100hz, not going to try pushing it further. YMMV. What seemed to work for me is restarting the graphics driver after using CRU and then rebooting. Without restarting the graphics driver before rebooting I got flickering. Weird.
Screen is a LGD04B9, 1080p, 6bit, internal displayport. inspiron 7559Last edited: Mar 4, 2017 -
2nd and 3rd gen Intel CPU's are EOL so no updates for them.
Thanks Intel, for nothing.TomJGX, bennyg and Ionising_Radiation like this. -
I figured out a workaround for 3rd gen Intel CPU's, not sure if this works on 2nd gen, but feedback would be appreciated.

Much appreciate any help I can get. I have an Intel 5500 graphics chipset on my laptop and trying to hook up my a 4k monitor @ 60Hz. AFAIK, the Intel 5500 is a 5th generation CPU, and according to what I've read on page 6 in this thread, the test drivers should support custom resolution using CRU.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the test driver posted in the following link, but I'm still not able to achieve anything greater than 34Hz at 4K resolution using CRU V1.3:

Unfortunately, the specs on my laptop (Lenovo Edge 80k9 model) doesn't say whether the HDMI port is version 2.0 or not. Still, the laptop is like a year old, so I can't imagine the HDMI port is that dated! -
After years of denial, Intel finally acknowledges Custom Resolution is broken and fix is on its way!
