The game got pushed back from March to May. More free play time.

Oh nice, might as well XD

MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
I need a new computer before I can play the beta, I'm on a 3 and a half year old Pentium 4 2.8GHz desktop with a 6600 GT. This game looks different from other MMORPGs, which is something I was looking for for a long time, I especially like the way quests and combat are handled. The nice graphics and the little DX10 support the game has is a huge plus for me, too.

I'm looking forward to this and WHO. Thanks for the link!
-
is this an open beta that everyone can join?? i cant view the site atm since im at work
.
thanks -
No, you have to apply and be picked.
-
Should be an awesome game! Hopefully they will pick me, i signed up, I could get lucky (fingers crossed).
-
DX10 only ha? Then I'm out.
-
There's no game out there or any in development that won't support dx9. Can pretty much guarantee that.
From the Conan FAQ:
-
As for WHO, unless they revamp completely, or have a whole new game hiding until launch, I wont play it. I have never despised and been depressed by a MMO before. -
Well then.
Thanks for pointing that out.
-
It looks like it may be a good game from what I've seen and read, but I don't plan on buying it if they do as they currently plan (charging a subscription fee to play the game). Hopefully they'll see the light and either switch to a non-subscription system, or go the way of Hellgate London (offering special features to those that choose to pay for a subscription, while allowing others to play for free).
-
Hellgate London isn't really a MMO. Its a glorified Diablo 2 game. When you break it down it's no different than logging onto a game chat lobby...gather up some ppl and start a private game. When the game is done you end up at the lobby. Now Hellgate's 'lobby' is just fancier. In that regard the logistics is similar to free-to-play online games like CoD4, UT2K4, Batllefield, CSS etc. You dont need a server farm to sustain those games online hence no need subscription fee. MMO's are run on server farms and those aren't cheap to maintain.
I got no probs with MMO games charging monthly fees. My only gripe is the actual game itself should be free or at the least be heavily discounted, not full priced. -
Quite frankly, I'd rather Conan stays a "pay to play" model.
Indeed after games like WoW, where 13-yr-old mentalities are the norm, I'll pay $30 a month for a premium server where they DOUBLE the amount of time and XP required to level (to weed out the Ritalin generation and the short attention span adults) and require and verify player age over 18.
Just once, it would be nice if I didn't have to watch my language, worry about some off-color comment warping the minds of some pre-teen, and be able to build a community with people interested in more than just levelling and loot.
Games like Hellgate and Diablo tend to be the absolute worst communities because the average mental age is in the single digits. No thanks, the market is choked with MMORPGs for children. Can we have one for grown-ups now? -
I've been in Conan beta for a month or two now. It's really good fun, but still very rough around the edges. (I think delaying it until May was a good decision)
At the moment, only the DX9 version is playable, so no, it's not DX10 only.
Oh, and can I just say, it's so nice and refreshing to play a game that completely ignores ratings... Blood, violence and *** is everywhere in that game... -
If you can do so without breaking your NDA...
(might want to check if publicly admitting you are in the beta already did it)
Classes... do they feel balanced for the most part, or are classes like Necromancer pretty much running away with everything like they did in EQ?
Ranged combat... is this a lineage2 clone where ranged = win and melee = lose?
PvE Challenge... is this another "someone go find some more mobs, this is boring" dungeon run, or can you count on some encounters which will challenge the party?
PvP... How your experiences in PvP so far?
Death... how is it handled?
Performance... the devs indicated Oblivion as the hardware stress indicator some time back, is this still relevent?
Any and all answers (without breaking your NDA) are truly appreciated. -
Most of the rest of your questions can be boiled down to "do they do the right thing, or does it suck". So let me answer those by saying, as I did above, "so far I'm having fun with the game."
I haven't encountered any really terrible gameplay decisions. A lot needs to be tweaked, of course, and not all parts of the game are equally innovative, but overall, I'm having more fun with it than I did with the EQ/WoW clones. -
Can you tell us what kind of copmputer you are running the game on, since this is the game i have been waiting for and will be buying a new rig soon.
Thanks -
Athlon 64 (yeah, singlecore) 2GHz
1GB RAM
Geforce 6800 GT -
How well does the game run with that computer? My main concern would be the large battles.
Was thinking of getting the gateway p-6831 fx laptop to run it but had concerns over processor not being good enough.
