Age of Conan PVP weekend

There's a PVP weekend from friday 16PM until monday 16PM EST

I got an invitation but it's a 7GB download and I have a 20GB monthly downstream cap >_> (to be fixed in july) with a $8/GB penalty so I gotta forget about it.

Anyone interested ? >_>

I am still waiting for my own invitation (they are staggering the invites). On a notebook related topic, I know from a source that the Gateway P-6831 FX runs Age of Conan very well. If I can update with actual framerates, especially during PvP, I will (NDA willing).

By the way you are not breaking NDA by saying you got a key. I think you wouldn't sign an NDA until after you downloaded the client and launched the install.

I've signed up for beta but don't know if I got an email or not until I get home.

 

They are staggering the invites to ease congestion on their download servers. It turns out some amount of people might have to wait until tomorrow to find out if they got a key.

According to the official AoC site, there are fewer than 15,000 people now in beta total. That means that this PvP test (with 15,000 people) will be the most people online at once doing something taxing (like PvPing). It is possible there will be some lag. But if there is, I would rather have it now and them fix it before launch. A similar situation should ensue for both their download and connection servers.

They are holding back the last set of invites until they can get a new download method up (torrent). When you go get your letter you get sent to this page. If you see the download info there, you have been selected and your email has not yet reached you. However, if you see nothing there it does not mean you have not been selected for the beta. Some people say if you see a white box instead of a "you will be notified on April 16th", your invite is in an upcoming batch. I have that white box.

They starting sending out today's batch at 1:30PM EST. People started reporting getting keys and new torrent download info at around 3:10PM EST. Hopefully I still get in. If not, I can actually get some things done this weekend... so win win.

A lot of people had trouble with the Gamespot Download Manager (it failed the download at 99%). So if you got one set of download info, you might want to check the page to see if they updated to the torrent info. That might be a better option for you.

I got one beta client through torrent. I can't remember if it was WoW or DDO. It worked out pretty well. I thought they were genius for the amount of money they saved on bandwidth costs on their end.

Lol, yeah, i got an invite, but the torrent method is obnoxiously slow...i can't seem to download the other way..as i apparently have an error each time i want to. By the time I'm done downloading...the beta will be over.

 

What is your internet provider Pablo? There are some like Bell Canada (which affects any DSL using Bell's lines) & Comcast that slow torrents to 30kb/s

 

Yup, got my invite today as well. I'm downloading now but it is indeed very slow. Part 1 (2048MB) is about half done and it's been an hour!

Is funcom offering a download too or just gamespot?

 

it's ATT yahoo. I get roughly 30kb under...usually averaging around 17kb. I have a 1.5mb connection so if it weren't a torrent, I'd be getting around 160KB roughly

 

Yeah this torrent sucks it was at 150kb now its down to 20-30 with a 1week 5day ETA I give up. I bet less than 20% of the 15000 keys will be playing because of this.

 

I gave up on the Gamespot downloader. Part 2 successfully DL'd but the remaining three just come up with errors. Luckily in the beta forum there is a link for a nifty Funcom downloader that seems to be working. It's still going to take 8 hours to DL over a DSL, tho'.

 

The Funcom downloader is going really fast for me - getting 680k/s...eta 2-3hrs
