Come on, we've pretty much all been hyped up for Age of Conan, which was supposed to be the most revolutionary MMORPG ever. The game has so much potential, and I just wish it had lived up to that potential. It could've been one of the best games ever. One of the main things that had made me quit was that there was a small amount of people playing and it just didn't feel like a MMORPG without people. I think that it was also missing the depth that was promised, like the whole kinship/siege system, the fully cinematic quests (past level 20 quests weren't as good as they could've been, but level 1-20 quests were brilliant), etc. How is Age of Conan now? Does anyone still play it?

Best thing to do is get the vibe from the proverbial horse's mouth....

From what I'm reading AoC does sound like it has improved over time. I quit after the first four months from launch. If LotRO begins to grow stale for me then I may re-sub AoC. -

Check out the DirectX 10 graphics update:

This looks really incredible, I think that it looks better in Crysis when you take the style and technical feats into consideration. The game looked amazing before, but this almost looks like a completely different game now, and they didn't even add all of the DX10 enhancements yet. I'm considering trying it again just because of the graphics update, and it seems really improved. I'm sort of doubting my MacBook Pro's ability to play this maxed out. After watching the video, there's really no other way to play. I could play it maxed with 2X AA before when I had tried it on my MacBook Pro, though pre-DX10 update. I would've probably upgraded the video card in my Dell desktop if I still had it. It wasn't worth keeping it for that one game, though, since I've only been using my MBP as a computer and my Xbox 360 for gaming. -
I preordered it, had the rhino and everything.
I found out a way to increase my pvp level to 5 in 24hrs...
Of course, I consulted the GMs to see if it was against the terms. They came to a conclusion that it wasnt, and it was simply the game mechanics that we took advantage of.
So I got my PoM all lvl5 gear and everyone was pissed on the server. Everyone wanted to know how I did it,(because they would do it too) and if I didnt tell them, they would go over the forums posting a screenshot of my character...showing that it was level 5 pvp and the highest anyone had gotten was lvl2.
Besides, it would have taken years to get to lvl 5 the way they had the pvp scoring set up.
Anyways, one day I came to log on, and all my pvp gear was gone. So...FunCom GMs said It was ok for what I did, but yet they took all the gear from me and then didnt give my gold back that I spent on it, which was roughly around 30g.
So in conclusion, AoC was fun, until I wanted to kill funcom for betraying me, the gamer, that purchased their game, that was paying for their service. It was really rediculous how they went about it. I personally will never go back to playing that game just because of all the bugs and stupid people that play on the game. FunCom could rot for all I care. -
Btw who names their company Funcom? I can just imagine it.. a bunch of business executives in a room asking the question "What should our name be? It has to be fresh! It has to let the kids 'down with it' know that if you play our game, you will have a good time!" "Oh I got it, how about Funcom. Because you'll have fun, get it?" "Promotion for you good sir."

Funcom has been around a while. I remember that they had made the first crappy Crash Bandicoot game (Crash Bash) when Naughty Dog (having to leave their series behind due to publishers rights) left Universal Interactive and UI had to pawn the series to someone else. Thus Crash began to suck hardcore.

Some say too many parents complained, other sources say Walmart told them to in order to sell AoC in their stores, while another theory is because of the proposed port to the 360. -
Parents are stupid if they complain about a game...Look at the frikin rating is M for Mature...if your kid is 13yrs old and you think he/she is mature, than that is your problem.
If there is a rating on something, it is there for a reason.
Also, if you werent complaining, maybe you could be spending time at the park with your kid. -

Population killed it for me. I played 3 months, my barbarian is level 53 I think?. I may get back again. When everyone left after a month, there were too many servers for the left population so...

Well I still play and the game has only improved with each patch. A test for DX10 has been released, looks great and is playable; although you need a fairly high end machine to get decent frame rates.
If you are thinking of coming back I would wait until the next patch is released (1.05) since it is going to be huge. They are reworking the itemization, stats, game mechanics, and adding an entire new zone (Tarantia Commons lv70+ zone). It has been on the test server for about a month and will be for probably another month until it hits the live servers.
The game is good and fun right now, but since this patch is going to change things around so much you are probably better of waiting until it is released and just re-roll a new toon so you can check out all of the new content and changes. -
When I played, the first 20 levels were the best MMORPG I had ever played.
Deep storyline, fun characters, fun combat, adult themes...
After I left Tortage, life got more freestyle, but was still fun... but as you grew higher, the game got worse and worse.... as if they didn't know what to do with you once you got 50+.
Character balance was out of whack... Tempests were unkillable gods who could kill any character in a blink of an eye, heal almost as well as a PoM, tank almost as well as the best tank in the game, and didn't bother grouping with anyone but other tempests.
Other classes seemed to be 100% pointless... the Assassin and Dark Templar for instance were extreme hardmode and brought basically nothing to the table for a group that could get MUCH easier and better classes to fill the roles even if they didn't have a Tempest to do everything.
How are the Dark Templars doing? I had hoped the class would turn out to be a life draining, arcane-aware and defended tank to counter the melee-centric role of the guardian. The truth was they had not even half the damage absoption and drained for such small amounts that it wasn't worth mentioning.
I sincerely hope they have fixed Conan... a game anywhere near the first 20-30 levels would be amazing. -
-
As far as quests and whatnot they have added some to most of the zones, redone all of the lower level dungeons, added some dungeons (mid and high level), and added an entire new zone (lv55-63). -
It's probably too late for this game in my opinion. by the time it is up and running the way it should there will be bigger and better. It will never become one of the TOP mmorpg's because of this. some may still love it i'm sure though. I never played it because i heard almost nothing good about it. that's my logic though

I'm kinda hoping the "not so good release" games like Conan and Warhammer will do what they need to do and make a comeback.
Conan really was an amazing experience for the first 50 levels. It game balance and content just wasn't there in mid-endgame.
Warhammer was boring after a few hours, but had a lot of potential despite its low-end graphics.
Games like Lineage2 are now just plain amazing depite their lower-end graphics... I really hope Conan and Warhammer rise to that level of fun and balance and endgame.
