I played World of Warcraft for awhile, I've been banned from it three times because it was starting to get old and I was making it fun for me. I enjoyed the PvP, and I also liked doing instances. Grinding was fun too. I am just a little weary in buying it... I mean, the whole game is the size of one of WoWs continents, and there are very few instances as well.
Can you do raids? Are groups available often? Is the PvP fun? How about PvPvE? Has new content been added to it in its years of uptime? I am guessing it has the same item system has Diablo, Everquest, etc... Drops can drop off of anyone, rare items, chest gloves pants etc?
Also, is my system capable of running it at full blast? 10mbs internet speed, GTX 260M w/ 1g GDDR3, Q9000, 6gigs of DDR2, two 7200RPM drives.

I have been having flashbacks myself about WoW and FFXI lol its like a drug it comes back after you. I know I do not have time to really make use of MMO games though so its like throwing money away on the monthly fee's that I really do not have to toss away.
I have been missing FFXI more than WoW though, it felt more grown up to me. -
I figure $15.00 isn't much if it is something I have fun doing. That's a little under an hour working for me after taxes, and if it pays for entertainment for a month, I figure why not?

Well then sounds like you answered your own question, you have the money to test the waters so why not
For me the budget is a lot more tight and even $15 is the difference between eating lunch one day or not. -
I really don't want to go through the downloading and spending $60.00 which, like you said, could pay for lunch for a week if it is something I am going to end up not liking. Is their demo available yet?
Any Aion players, feel free to chime in

Id be down for a demo too, or some kind of free trial.
For now I guess I will stick to WoW private servers for a fix lol.
Looks like there are FFXI private servers now too but a lot harder to find and understand. -
Do you like it's type of lore in which there is a God known as Aion that created everything with an amazing planet turned into 2 halves with the Elyos(Humans like Angels) is on one side of the planet which is filled with green nature, waters, clouds and peaceful creatures and the Asmodians(Humans like Demons) on the other side of the planet filled with cold and dry nature, icy and snowy lands and dangerous creatures and both are fighting each other the whole time and having secrets hidden to be known in the Asian fantasy style of way?
Do you like your game to be filled with beautiful eye-catching graphics that is kept up to date from time to time and a PC that could handle that amount of graphics?
Do you like to customize your character in an extreme way that could make you look so special and unique and in which you could even create a character that could look like you?
Do you like to Play vs. Players in which the way you fight against the other player will depend on the race and class you choose and how you know to play with it?
Do you like to Play vs. Enemies in the story line to follow the lore in which you play with other players and your job will depend on the class you choose?
Do you like to Play vs. Players vs. Enemies at the same time?
Do you like to level with quests that have nice story line or by killing mobs one after another?
Do you like to have a job that would benefit you in many ways? and increasing that job could be done by questing un-like other games
Do you like Asian fantasy style characters and creatures? (refering to a game like Final Fantasy for that)
Do you like Asian fantasy style music? (refering to a game like Final Fantasy for that again)
Do you like to play with your character with skills with nice graphical action designs?
Do you like to play within a legion(a clan / a guild) that could help with lots of things and accomplish many things with?
Can you pay for the game enough?
Do you have a PC that could handle it's graphics and amount of storage that will be increasing as time goes on?
Aion would be for you

I've been playing Aion on and off for a couple of weeks and am just past Ascension. It's quite fun, but as a Guild Wars player I've decided not to renew the subscription. Guild Wars, to me, looks just as good and is just as fun and is F2P after you buy the box as opposed to Aion's subscription model. It's just not worth paying for Aion for me when I could get an experience just as enjoyable with GW.
If you're into MMOs I'd suggest trying Global Agenda - an upcoming FPS MMO in closed beta. It looks pretty cool, I have a closed beta key but can't download the client yet until next month. -

Please not this advertisement is not brought to you by Aion team or any of its affiliates
Oh yeah forgot all about guide wars, infact I should probably install it again. I couldnt get into it first time but I didnt really give it enough time to figure it out. -
I was only trying to help but I do wish I worked in NC
I'm studying Computer Graphics at the moment and hope that I would find a place in one of those companies
-
In all fairness, i believe you need less skill to play Aion than WoW hence why i classify it as a casuals mmo in my head, the number or stuns and silences are quite random and if you have one as an ability its on a long cd. Nothing like wow with a 6sec "kick" ability which you needed to pay attention of what the player is casting in order to interrupt it etc (for those who played a rogue in high rankings they know what i mean
).
Nice graphics come with a cost, while you wait for your character to finish the animation (which adds up to the whole graphics thing) the enemy is freely to run around. So in the end you never use those abilities in pvp in case you want to get kited.
PvP isnt exactly "pvp" is mass pvp, taking fortress with a large group etc. No battlegrounds either theres just only one big "WG" place 24/7
Depends what exactly are you looking for IMO, its quite fun to play this game with friends. -
You believe...but is it the truth?
You should try a ranger and tell me if you changed your mind
You've had the problem with the Gladiator and I am with you on that but please don't blame it on the other classes
There's only one location that is considered the main battlefield but it's different features wise and lore wise than the Battlegrounds and Arena of that other game (I've played it for 4 years but I don't like mentioning other games when a game is mentioned)
I'm only trying to break the mis-conception that may be born cause the PvP in Aion is amazing with the right choice of race and class especially with it having it's special feature of PvPvE
-
Considering i have 4 players with a rating over 2.2k in WoW im pretty confident when i say that
Even as a ranger if im not mistaken all interupts apart from one are random, target can spam heal again after 1 sec since its an interrupt and not a silence. I dont see the skill in that
Not to mention a cleric can just spam heal to death most melee classes (outheal).
So by assuming that one class is broken for 2 months now (and many more since its not a new game in general) that makes the game alright ? It actually shows how poor the game is if you want to take the route since by 1.5 patch (when it was released in EU) the balance issues should be gone. And im sure glads are not the only class with skill animations ?
Im just mentioning wow to point out that this is not my first mmo and i know how to play them meaning i dont just randomly go into the game and start judging it.
As for abyss, did you actually manage to do pvp in there the last few weeks (1vs1) ? Of course not because all people, especially all the high ranked at the moment move ALWAYS as a group. And if you managed to find someone alone im pretty sure you wont be seeing him again since people learn fast that going alone isnt the best except if you want to feed the opposite side AP
ps, Again this is all my opinion doesnt mean anyone should apply what im saying in their "daily life's". Some people might even like the parts im mentioning as a negative in many cases. But IMO i cant really compare WoW (before WOTLK) to Aion skill wise, ive played a lock, druid, rogue, priest(the priest not that much sadly), with all of them needed focus when doing pvp/arena. Chain cyclones, roots, stuns - silences, and fears -> pet silences. -
You could always take this opportunity to branch away from your norm type of game and try something different, such as Battleground Europe (MMOFPS) or play an RTS or something of that nature. For instance I played SWG but got bored after NGE, then started playing TF2 and my interest was regained and I loved both games.
-
I know what you meant but what I meant was - again
You cannot blame all the other classes just for one class that you haven't even reached to level 42+ (in which is considered the real pvp is supposed to begin) and you haven't even reached level 50 and played enough to judge between the games
In other words, you're putting a game that you've reached the highest level of and played at the highest level for enough time with a game that you've just reached the half of the highest level of and you're judging between them
You need to play Aion until level 50 (with a decent class) and World of Warcraft until level 80 (with a decent class) to be qualified enough to judge between them
I have played World of Warcraft since it's release so that is more than enough time to see it from the classic times, the burning crusade times and now and I was also in good rated teams and knew how PvP was in the game but I also prefer to judge between the games in the just way so as saying I wouldn't judge a game without being qualified enough
You seem to not know much about the rangers and the clerics
The Gladiators are not broken, they just need some fixes here and there and I have met lots of Gladiators that were happy with their class and gave me good comments about how their class was in (PvP), PvE and PvPvE and they were level 50 and been that way for some time
And from my point of view, I would not compare Aion and World of Warcraft even if they both had PvP and the PvE cause they were designed in completely different ways by completely different designors and I would not leave the game just for one mistake in it cause I would never find a game by then since World of Warcraft also has mistakes in PvP and PvE, Warhammer Online also has mistakes in those, Age of Conan also has mistakes in those and Aion also has mistakes in those so I would hope for those mistakes to be fixed instead of pop around from a game to a game cause I know that I would never find a game that is perfect
As for the Abyss, it depends from time to time and I prefer you change your server if you see it always to be that way cause it's not like that for mine
I respect your opinion but I am only replying cause I find some things in your posts that might mis-lead people when it could be just the opposite -
That is true, i do agree with that since that was exactly what i was thinking when i was levelling the glad. Since everyone say that glads shine after 45, pvp wise that is.
In my server its a gang fest, both sides
Usually groups of 6+ elyos/asmos camp lower regions on the other side of the map and gang unexpected players
For abyss i wont even comment it, after 100 deaths i stopped doing quests there, glad killing a mob -> "rain of fire from above" -> glad dies
-
You should change your server, your race and your class to fix your situation!
-
Haha
but from what ive seen all the servers are pretty balanced, all of them are almost 50%-50% +/-2% as far as people on each side goes.
So the issue is finding a server with "quality" people which is impossible if you dont play in one for a while
-
You're playing in which region by the way?
I'm playing in the EU region
-
EU as well of course, i cant even imagine what ping i would get other wise
-
I'm going to be honest - I really could care less about the stories in MMORPG's. :idk:. My new laptop should be arriving at my front door any minute now!
-
So if you are after PvP why are you going for an RPG instead of something like planetside?
-
Because I like the whole leveling up and gearing up aspect. -
I don't play the game myself but from wikipedia:
Leveling and Experience
While a first person shooter at heart, PlanetSide does have an experience/leveling system. Earned experience is divided into three categories: Battle Experience, Support Experience, and Command Experience. Battle Experience is gained from elimination of enemy soldiers, the capture of base facilities, and exploring and interacting with the game world. Support Experience is earned through "Assist" kills: after aiding another player, the first player gains a percentage of experience the other player gains through kills. Command Experience is gained from leading a squad or platoon in a successful base capture. Functionally, Battle Experience and Support Experience are identical, both contributing towards Battle Rank, which leads to benefits such as the ability to use different equipment, implants, or appearance upgrades. Accumulated Command Experience lets the player use several team-oriented abilities. Currently, the maximum Battle Rank is set to 40, while the maximum Command Rank is set to 5.
Most Battle Ranks give you a certification point which can then be spent on certifications, while each Command Rank unlocks a special ability accessed via an item called a "Command Uplink Device (CUD)". Certifications can be used to unlock new weapons or vehicles you can use on the battlefield, thus enhancing a character's flexibility.
Also it says they have 28 different weapons and 38 different vehicles. -
I can't believe people mentioned WoW and skill in the same sentence...
The game practically invented max-level /faceroll players.
The only game I can think of easier than WoW would be "Hello Kitty Island Adventure".
That being said WoW and Aion are pretty much designed for the same crowd.
Except Aion's art is designed to look a LOT better.
How have they handled the speed hack cheats and the ebay-babies?
The asian servers (the most up-to-date ones) are rife with a hack that makes you a god compared to someone who doesn't. Have they banned it and enforced said bans on the US servers or did you have to use the cheat in order to actually have a chance at any advancement?
How bad is the ebay population? Are the "I have 846732894134981236418246189489123641238946192386413984619832641829461389468216483648913264831846938214 full heal potions and I have no reason not to macro them to spam 3/sec" people blocking advancement for everyone else? -
You should take it easy on all those games now there isn't any completely perfected game in life for us, you know? since you can always find a mistake in any of them but that doesn't mean we should consider the game to be bad just cause of that
And about skills - All of those games you've listed (including Hello Kitty Island Adventure) require skill cause there will always be players that know how to play better than you with that specific game which will create a challenge and have you try to be more skilled in order to defeat them
World of Warcraft was made for MMORPG players and Aion was made for MMORPG players but definitely not for the same crowd of MMORPG players
And for the bans:
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=26216
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/16000_cheaters_and_spammers_banned_aion
http://dailygamesnews.com/2009/11/ncsoft-bans-16000-cheaters-from-aion.html
And for the spammers:
Characters that are lower than level 10 are not allowed to chat on all of the chats even the private chatting to a person except for the /say until they are level 10 and when they've done this, I found our chats to be free from the spammers -
meh, imma just wait for FFXIV untill i get into another mmo

That makes me warm inside if it feels like the original but improved. Definitly needs to retain support for playing with japanese players too, thats one thing that made it way different than the other american MMO's was the built in translation system and mixed server.
I played at odd hours so often only JP players were on, at that point in time I was learning japanese too so it was nice to get some practice. -
I like the game so far, 42 glad and even more into it now as they released expansion pack teaser which should make things a lot more interesting.

I actually liked the first FF online. There is a second on the weay?
-
Aion... Well lets put it this way... I played FFXI for 3 years and didn't mind the grind..... Aion however... I got to lvl 25 before hitting a brick wall of doom and quitting due to being bored.... Seriously don't play it, just wait for FFXIV.... I mean really... I bet half of Aions players are gonna jump ship come September.
-
Heh i dunno. Many Aion players are merely killing time for GW2. i know of a few guilds and at least one clan of 400 people waiting for GW2. Aion will have ALOT in common with GW in terms of play style instances and leveling.
my reccommendation is stall tactics. play other more affordable games until what you really want comes out.
P.S...... Id keep a weather eye on star wars the old republic.
Aion worth buying for me?
