With Diablo 3 just around the corner, does anyone recommend grabbing Alan Wake now on Steam while it's $15? I won't play it anytime soon but it could be awhile until it goes on sale again.

It is a fun game, not super long, you could probably finish it before D3 gets here. I am considering American Nightmare, I liked Alan Wake quite a bit.

I can't speak for the PC version, but I picked it up on 360 sometime last year. Frickin' awesome. Dark atmosphere (if you remember Twin Peaks you'll love it). Relatively compelling story line, decent core combat mechanic that - whilst simple - delivers an addictive engagement. The following DLC are apparently not so hot - I've only started 'The Signal'. But the first release I've clocked a few times.

If you like getting the bejeezus scared out of you with some adrenaline-pumping-action, get it. :) And yeah, as above, you'll be well done before D3. :)

Don't get it on Steam. It's the same price on gog.com and is completely DRM free. Just purchased it and am downloading now.

Great game, and probably the greatest port ever seen. I just picked up American Nightmare today, (25% off for Alan Wake owners). I highly recommend Alan Wake, great atmosphere, gameplay is good, can be repetitive but the story more than makes up for it. I also loved the ending, one of my favorites in fact. Very much inspired by Stephen King. The DLCs are really good as well, they add to the story, but what they add is only a small part (not bad for I think $5 DLC on XBox). What they add is small but important to the story. Well worth that price.

    $15, and DRM-free on gog.com? Ok, I'll buy.

What is the DLC you're referring to, and is that included in the game?

This is a truly great game. It's worth way more than a mere 15 dollars. Not to mention its the highest quality port I've ever seen. If I hadn't already played this game the the 360, I would have thought it was a PC exclusive. Wait until you you see the graphics options, I still can't believe that its a port. As for the game itself,.....well you need to see it for yourself. It's very unique, with a wonderful storyline and mind-blowing graphics. The presentation alone will make you wonder why this game didn't get as much praise as Uncharted 2 etc. Remedy really outdid themselves. Can't wait for Max Payne 3.

Sadly i dont have the cash yet to buy this, since my D-Link Dir855 died.
New wireless router > Alan Wake.

But i did play it on the Xbox 360 (Not the DLC) and i cant recommend the game enough.
If you want it on Steam then buy it there, but GoG.com aint that bad either with no DRM at all.
    Just install and enjoy.

Too bad a 460m won't cut it. Anything higher than that should make this game more worth it.

Downloaded last night, but didn't have time to actually play. Maybe I'll be able to break away from ME3 multiplayer (I don't know why, but beating people up repetitively with a krogan is just so much fun!) long enough to try it out today.

Truer words about a triple-A title have not been said. This game, and Remedy, deserve support. They will no doubt be bringing more quality to a screen near us soon!

This game is performing absolutely terribly on my 550m. I've even tried running 1024x768 on the absolute lowest settings, and I cannot achieve a stable 30 fps. I'm getting somewhere between 20-25, occasionally up to 30, with everything on low or disabled (even forced AA off through the drivers). What else can I do to get this game to run adequately?

I can run BF3 at 40-50 fps, I don't understand why this game is giving me trouble.

EDIT: Must be driver-related. A small overclock (+100mhz core and memory) plus the latest beta drivers is giving me 30-40fps at 720p with FXAA enabled. That's acceptable, but this game sure beats up my system. I'll have to try it on my 6950 when I get home and see how well it handles it.
