    Alien Arena 2009

Available now and completely open source. Looks impressive and fun.

It looks good, but I get the impression it's the poor man's Unreal Tournament. I already have UT'99, UT2k4, and UT3. :p

Looks pretty good, and fun (which is always a plus for a free game).

However, I have to agree with Mastershroom, it does look rather UT-like.

Blurb from the website in regards to the UT comparison...

The goal of Alien Arena was to create the perfect marriage between Quake and Unreal Tournament, between retro sci-fi and futuristic tech, and between casual gamer and advanced expert, and wrap it up in a package with quality that could rival that of commercial games.

So, yes, the UT resemblance is apparent.

    It's FREE. So I don't think it's "a step back".

If it was a 'step forward' we'd probably be paying for it but in the case of this game I agree it wouldn't garner much attention.

The point is it's free and open source. Consider this a stepping stone for more games like this to follow.

    Cons
Not so good - doesnt come close to quake or UT at that.

    Pros
    Very fast uninstall
Customisable resolution by typing the res.

It needs work, graphics also, in time it may mature to becoming alot better.

It looks good for a free game. I wouldn't pay for it over Quake 4 or UT3, but it holds its own among free games.

if you already own UT3, then UT3 is FREE also. read closely what i said originally.

there is not much of a point to this IF you already own UT3.

if you don't own UT3, but you like UT style gameplay, and don't have $15 to spend on the game, maybe you should check this out ;)
