If you can get your hands on a copy of Aliens Vs. Predator 2 from 2001, I highly recommend getting the master patch and trying the multiplayer. Official support for the game's multi ended in 2008, but there have been 3rd party updates to keep the game going.

It really is a fantastic game. There's some great game modes (if you choose an alien character and go to server where "life-cycle" is turned on, you start each spawn as a face-hugger and can work your way up to queen!!!) and the balance is really good. Since it came out in the days before Xperience based First Person shooter multiplayer, you have access to all marine weaponry right off the bat! You can spawn with a Smartgun!

Do any Aliens wanna help us keep this game alive? The player base is very small and it isn't always easy to find a server with good ping, but it's a great fix for aliens fans dissappointed with the last two games and the re-release of AvP1 on steam. Colonial Marines had horrible bugs that drove people away from matchmaking (although it would've been great with polish and dedicated servers), AvP reboot from 2010 had awful balancing issues (predator was too good, and the alien was underpowered as a melee fighter). AvP "classic" was released on steam, but that game sucks because it was made in a time when video-game characters moved at offensively ridiculous speeds. Aliens Vs Predator is still the best.

So dust off your old CD-rom if you have it... or buy it on amazon. Just get it!

Oh yeah, here are the links to all of the map updates you need and the latest master server patch.

You should also know that if you are running XP, you will have to play the game in windowed mode (It's not that bad if you turn the ingame settings to your native resolution) to get a decent framerate. This will require you to go into autoexec.cfg and add

    "Windowed" "1"
