Even though the reviews all said that this game sucked, I'm still going to get it. looks awesome! I also LOVED the Alien movies. Can't say the same for the Predator movies.

 

Seems the console version got bad reviews but PC is still TBD. I also wonder how this compares with the original AVP?

im not sure if i ll be able to let you know how REALLY this game is since i ll be running it on dx9 and i have never played the previous ones.

Also pc zone gave the pc version 82% which is pretty good in pc zone.

 

I picked up the retail copy today, since its a Steam title anyways. Saves me some bandwidth.

I'm holding off on opening it, seems the final version doesn't have dedicated servers. Developers will patch it in later.... This might be going back lol.

The reviews show this game to be repetitive, basic and short with little to no replay value. The kill animations are repeated a hell of a lot and it looks to me like the development team for the PC just got to a point where they just couldn't live up to the hype of it that they produced. I really doubt that I will be buying this one.

 

That's a complete shame. I guess I'll have to load up the original. It's probably at least a 10 year old game, but is still great. How could they let such an awesome opportunity go to waste. I'll probably wait for this one to hit the bargain bin.

heres a few screens fromt he game running on my laptop in dx11
(of course dx11 features such as tessellation are disabled i have a dx10 card)
i also turned ambient occlusion off and motion blur (AO performance drop and motion blur ive never liked) everything else is maxed out. getting a good fps that fluctuates between 30 and 60 lol.

yea while im downloading i noticed if you right clicked it, you have options to run it in dx11 or dx9. Does that mean i can still get some dx11 features even though i have xp? And is the performance better than the demo??

PS: started downloading at 2 o clock, its 7 30 now and now im up to 67%. lol

It's like MW2, it's a game you either love or you hate. I love it! If you don't like the AVP universe then of course you will not like it. If you do like AVP, but dislike this game, I feel sorry for you....

i doubt youll be able to run it in dx11 on xp because xp doesnt have dx11 installed where as vista and windows 7 do. cant really tell if the performance is better then demo since demo was only multiplayer in dx9. seems the same performance to me though. there are a few weird places and things that drop the fps down massively. for example when the predator when you drain a power node your fps sometimes drops to 3 or even freezes for a second before jumping back up to 60 fps. i know its not my vid card in my laptop because it does this on my desktop running a gtx 260 also. other then a few glitches like stated above the game runs real well and multiplayer for the second is hosted by players although there is a dedicated server option it says its still in beta so it can cause bugs or what not. i havent tried dedicated yet so i dunno how true that is.

funny enough though first online game i played was 1400 ping but every game after that has been 80-200 which is normal for my connection.

Yes I do. Because even if they think it's substandard, it's still a fun game and it follows the true feeling of the AVP universe.

(i actually don't feel sorry because I honestly don't care if people don't like, I enjoy it immensely. Best $50 bucks I ever spent)

Lolz went straight to Multiplayer. Im LOVING IT SO FAR!!!! they improved the camera angles during kill animations and graphics in dx9. Really enjoying this game right now so i don't care about the bad reviews. ANSWER PLZ --> if you preordered in steam, i know that you get those skins but do i automaticaly get them or do i have to do something. Also for those people who are saying that the three species are unbalanced because they think the aliens and predators are OP, i have to strongly disagree. Marines if they stick together, it makes it really hard to even approach them.

yeah the marines have to pretty much act like young piranha or they become cannon fodder lol. you have the skins already you just have to switch over to them. play a survivor game youll start out easy but soon enough youll be cryin for help as you get overwhelmed lol

 

there was really no hype for AVP. Mostly the fans of aliens and preds were excited bout it. If you were hyped about AVP after knowing that SEGA is the publisher then you should consider ending your life a little bit earlier for the sake of humanity.

Due to all the posts about glitches and the lack of dedis in the Steam forums, I'm going to quit while I'm ahead and return my sealed copy. Wait for some patches and maybe grab it on sale

A real shame because I enjoyed the demo.

 

All a publisher does is bring the cash and sometimes set the deadline.

Of course, in this case the deadline was set in poor taste, but that's all you can blame Seggae for.

 

I was really looking forward to this one, but was not impressed with the demo. I may just get the original instead of the new one I lost my copy of it so may get the steam copy.

I did play survivor and apparently the guy chosen to be alien sucked so to make it more fun i went out by myself which is like a suicide

oops i meant infestation not survivor. Just played survivor with 2 people, lol the AIs are probably better than 50% of people out there playing as aliens excluding me

 

so how's the single player? That's really all I care about, but if it's fun, I'm game!

 

I have played the demo quite a bit, and gotten the game yesterday... after playing it for a little while it is actually a fun game.... and I am an old school AvP 1 and 2 player so I know how this compares.... sure its a little watered down compared to all the features of the second one... but its still pretty fun ... and it brings back days of running scared from the aliens because of how dark every place is haha

 

Great! Very atmospheric and creepy. They keep the interiors dark with only your flashlight and some emergency lighting illuminating the corridors. If you have some good headphones (I'm using A40's) you can really hear the steam pipes around you, the footsteps echoing down the hallways, and the sounds of things moving in the vents around you. Seeing an Alien crawling out of the floor, vent, or coming around a corner on the wall is pretty cool. I've played a bit of the Marine campaign and just started the Predator one... good times!

 

yup i have to agree. They did a really good job with the sounds in this game. Im playing the aliens campaign right now and i just have to say, GO ALIENS! lol

 

This game is fricking awesome! Do you guys run it on DX11 or DX9? I don't really feel a difference in graphics since my card doesn't support DX11 (280m GTX SLI).

 

Dx9 for me, will try dx11 later and see how it looks on my system. I've got some intermittent bugs while playing so I'll have to work on fixing them

 

wHAT SORT OF SETTINGS ARE U GUYS USING FOR THIS GAME?I AM RUNNING IT IN DIRECTX 9 BUT HAVE TO HAVE SHADERS ON NORMAL AND SHADOWS.IF I HAVE IT ON HIGH IT IS VERY JUMPY,IS IT BECAUSE MY GPU HAS 512MB?IT IS EITHER A SYSTEM HOG OR BADLY CODED,OR I NEED AN UPGRADE.MAYBE A PATCH WILL COME OUT SOON.

Gamespot's review isn't very encouraging. Metacritic makes it appear to be mediocre at best. I may still get it since I'm a fan of the original.

 

It is very good,but somehow lacking in the tension department.In avp2 when the aliens rush you is a moment of pure terror,in this they dont seem into much of a rush to rip u to pieces.Dont get me wrong my wife was laughing each time i yelled out loud last night when i was playing.The graphics are top notch,or at least my gpu seems to think so,I mean i can run crysis on high at 1600x1200 at 30fps{with a overclock}bioshock 2 maxed out even forcing aa x4.But this no way,only if i drop the rez to 1280x768 then i can max the shaders shadows etc.

Im gonna try it on my vista next as i sometimes get better results?

I have to say that this game was worth the money. The marine campaign im currently playing is really creepy in tone with the previous games. Nicely done i would say. Havent tried the multiplayer yet though.
The best things about the game is how it forces you to be scared and look around every corner to make sure there is nothing sitting on the ceiling ha ha and the sporadic gun fire caused by alien rushes ))

Do you guys have the brightness bug when running on dx11? I've read various forums about similar issues. Wonder if there's any way to fix it since dx11 is said to give smoother fps for GPU's that support dx10.

 

Been playing the demo alot and i think if i do buy it ill do the alien and predator campaign not that bothered for marine, The predator is so fun to use BRING ON THE PREY!

 

lol this game just gets funner and funner(not even sure if that's a word but) everyday!!! Got at least 20 kills every team deathmatch! of course playing as the alien. I might be good as alien but i just suck as pred or marines. I only play as marines in survivor, infestation or predator hunt and nothing else. If i get picked as the marine in one of the other modes, i just leave When i get picked as the predator, i just have fun using the cool new weapons. I don't even bother turning on the heat vision. I always have it on the alien vision cuz waht do you kno, marines aren't that big of a deal as the aliens. Anyone wants to add me in steam, its the same name as my NBR account just send me a pm before you add me so i know what your steam account name is.

 

I dropped by my local tech store and they were already sold out of 360 & PC versions of AvP. Had three copies of PS3 port but despite me owning a PS3 I decided to pass. I will get the PC one as it is $10 cheaper.
