    Hi,
New here. Not a computer wiz. I was looking at an Alienware Area 51 M 7700used laptop in excellant condition, hardley used at all. Can I use this type of computer for regular laptop use and not for gaming for which it semms it was designed. A great buy.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    I don't get your question...

A laptop is a laptop, regardless of "what" it was built for. Alienware laptops can still browse the internet and play music and do all the things "regular" laptops can do.

Agreed. People only buy Alienware's to play games on, and for it to look pretty at their local LAN party.

The Alienware isn't a special laptop or anything, it does what every other laptop can do when not used for gaming. I.E: Browse the web, listen to music, watch videos, etc etc.

If you want to buy an Alienware, but you don't plan on gaming on it, then I suggest you look at a lower end laptop, so you can save yourself a good deal of money.

There are a lot of inexpensive laptops out there that would suit regular usage just fine. Besides, the Alienware is a bit old anyway. If you would like suggestions about a notebook purchase, do post at the WNSIB section of the forums.

Talking about price isn't really relevant since the OP mentions he's buying it used; there we have no clue how much he/she is actually paying for the machine(for all we know he found a dirt cheap deal from someone he/she knows).

    What's the price?

If it's over $400, just buy a brand new machine. This Alienware doesn't even have a warranty attached.

    Not worth it.

Totally agree. A new non-gaming rig (or used one) will give you much better battery life and possibly be cheaper. Used or not, you're still paying for the name and the GPU, two things that you don't need.

Also, the GPU isn't that great. The 6800 isn't BAD, but it's not "good."
