Hey there im new to the forums and was looking for some advice with regards to the terrible performance that M11x is delivering in world of warcraft.

I own an Alienware M11x R1 running it OC, i find that WoW in generall runs very well, i play on "high" settings and have no issue with fps, Dalaran runs between 25-35 fps at peak times all of Northrend including 5 man content runs between 50-60 fps without a hitch. Even 10 man raid content eg. VoA and all of ICC runs perfectly fine, 40-50 fps in combat with lots of effects happening.

The issue occurs as soon as i set foot in any 25 man content, first impressions is that even when not in combat fps is substantially lower around 30 fps. When combat starts i cannot get higher than 8 fps on the same "high" settings that i have no issues with anywhere else. Even when reducing all of the settings to the lowest i see a gain of around 7 fps maxing out at 15 fps this is still completely unplayable.

At first i suspected that this was an issue with addons causing some kind of bottle neck so i did a complete re install of the game and this still has had no effect. Now i was under the impression that the M11x would be able to handle this kind of game without any issue and am somewhat perplexed as to what the issue could be. Does anyone else have experience of this problem or has anyone remedied it?

Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

That would be the CPU, do you have the dual-core or did you stick with the single core? The one glaring downside to the M11X was the weak CPU selections, I am afraid there is not much you can do. This is what I think it may be, could be soemthing else though.

Try to keep the graphics settings as high as you can, because once you lower the resolution and settings, the CPU will be relied on more, hence the lower FPS.

I chose the dual core option 500 mg hd 2 gig of ram. It just dosent make sense this bit of kits specs wipe the floor of my old desktop yet i ran 25 man content at 40 fps no problemo.

Oh, maybe the RAM. What operating system are you using? I would highly recommend upgrading to 4gb, especially if your using Vista or W7. Vista eats almost 2gb just surfing the net and listenting to music, and W7 would probably use 1-1.2gb doing the same.

Now I am assuming there would be 2x1gb sticks and only two slots, so maybe just buy a 2gb stick and go with 3gb, that would get you over the hump I believe. $50 or $60, maybe less for a 2gb stick.

I assumed the dual core in the M11x should have been fine for WOW, I believe the RAM is your issue though. If your RAM gets overloaded, ie. too many people on screen, it will go to your pagefile on your hard drive which is SOOO SLOW, which would equate to your sudden FPS drop.

You can also try turning down spell effects. You should be able to keep most of your settings on high, but play with spell effects. And maybe even your far clip plane as well. Try dialing that down a smidge. I know it isn't as pretty, but from what I have found that even my old desktop with an AMD 5200+ dual core and a GTX260 had trouble in 25 mans running more than 8fps. I know my bottleneck was the CPU for sure, and the new i7 does not have issues. However turning down the spell effects would net me at least 30 fps which for a healing class was 100% needed.

    Good luck

If its the older Core 2 Duo based dual core cpu, you could maybe OC it a little? :)
It should handle WoW much better than stock clocks.

    Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU U7300 @ 1.30GHz (2 CPUs), ~1.7GHz

The bios has an inbuilt overclock feature which im currently using. Is there something else i can do?

you can overclock the GPU as well, and make sure your CPU is set to 1.73ghz.

both model CPU's are dual core - there aren't any single core options for the m11x.

Maybe turning down shadow and spell detail settings.
Dont see any other method of improving fps. :(

How do i over clock the GPU? And how do i check that the overclocking in the processor is making it run at 1.73 ghz?

You can check the prosessor clocks with CPU-Z and GPU-Z for the graphics card.

    do this.

Use NVDIA system tools 6.06 to overclock GPU.. do it in small increments and see temps each time using CPUID Hardware Monitor.
