Hello All! Can someone out there HELP? PLEASE!
I have a 4 year old Alienware M15x laptop with dual AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5800 series graphics cards.
AMD Radeon (0x68A1)
Internal DAC 400mhz
Bios: 113-B96102-105
4.8gb
Running on a Intel Core i7 Q740 1.73ghz processor with 8gb DDR3 RAM
Windows 10 64bit.
I did install the new Battlefront, and after a few issues with "DirectX Error Screens", I uninstalled and updated my video drivers.
So with the new 15.11 Catalyst drivers, the game is actually running, and running decently. Very little screen tearing, and very few glitches.
I have the graphics set high to 1600x900. I think that's necessary for my graphics cards to go into overclocked
"Turbo Mode". (not sure though)
Any-who, I'm wondering if I could either get some better graphics cards for this Laptop, or if I should just toss it in the pile, and go for a whole new setup?
I just want to play Battlefront. And I just need something good enough to compete with the newer rigs of today.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thnx!

Hi Dan, Welcome,
The M15x is one if the easiest Alienware laptops to upgrade, I understand that you can put pretty much any gpu you want in and it will work, you are just limited by power draw and heat dissipation.
There are people who have upgraded/modded the power delivery and the cooling system so that shouldn't be an issue, if you don't mind doing a bit of extra work.
I would recommend look into getting a gtx 970m graphics card and if you got the money a 920/940xm cpu for your M15x but not before heading over to the M15x forum, they will be able to help you out much more then I can.King of Interns likes this. -

Yup the 5850 or 5870 wasn't and still isn't too much of a slouch overclocked but compared with cards from 2012 onwards it is very much outclassed!
Simply go for what you can afford. Yes 970M offers best bang for buck. New one costs a bit more than 400 bucks. If you can't afford it then for 200-250 you can have a 8970M/M290X or 680M. I would recommend a 4GB card these days though. 2GB is a bit restricting in some titles.TomJGX likes this. -
