 Alienware's new M17X notebook - uncensored.
I got a hold of some pics (mostly of the bottom) of this secret and unannounced 17" gaming notebook.
(I am still trying to get a hold of the M15x pics)

They seem to be working on a service manual for this particular notebook.
Here is what I found:
The guide to opening the bottom panels (it seems).

 My thoughts and translations:
As you can see, this is a pretty interesting chassis because Alienware decided to use their alphabet (seen with the recent deciphering contest) and inscribed it onto the panels and the bottom of the notebook.
So, I took the time and liberty to be the first to translate it for the masses:

Looks to be an interesting notebook, but I could not find the GPU module pics (my main goal for doing this).... yet.![]()

Game On People,

P.S. Alienware seems to not be doing a great job with all of these leaks coming out days before their official launch date.... or it could be a part of their plans.
-
-
Honestly, I expected to see something more than just the bottom but I guess that's still something at the end...
Thanks. -
Sorry, I am trying to get more pics.
This is all I got, within the last few hours. -

-
Wow!! That is one kick ass laptop!! 8800GTX SLi???? :O
-
*holy son of a brick*
ROFLMAO
Indeed. Keep in mind it's Dellienware,so prices should be way lower once other brands start getting them in -
-
this kind of power will be truly amazing in a laptop. i'm juse excited to see where things will be in a few years when i upgrade again
-

Uhm... why would anyone buy the m17x?
I mean m15x is cheaper has 8800gtx (not sli though) and all the rest is almost the same!
And what a price diff. m15x is $1399
m17x is $2199 I believe
OH BTW Anyone estimate the thickness? BEcause I heard some people saying it can be 15.4 inch but still be a skyscraper lol like image 4inch tall with a .2 inch thick screen -
-
Expensive 8800gtx sli
Or Cheap 8800gtx... 15.4 inch... way more portable... bettery life lasts longer...
Oh yes BTW... Any ati cards coming up to this? Anyone know the approx. battery life of a M9750? or maybe even estimate the m15x and m17x's battery life? -
Prob for the same reason you have the XPS 1730 in your "Soon" sig
-
Awesome pics and "translation"!
Get more pictures when you can mate -
More power performance, lots of screen estate and the ability to play a lot of modern games with SLi configuration at more power than the single card is capable of producing.
Obviously applying to consumers with more budgets and imagination than Beatsiz though. -
When can we expect a review??? xD -
Wowzerz!
-
-
Not tellin!
-
i want a massive as possible screen, so hopefully they'll offer malx again...hopefully for a wee bit cheaper than 5000...blasted a hole in da ol' wallet the size of texas....maybe i should go with 17in
-
Dude where you guys getting all this stuff
I bet Alienware aint to happy with us stealing their thunder. Than again it could be a marketing play also. Good work, now someone tell me if the 8800 will fit in my 5791 please.

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Its not all nvidia. Its mainly up to your laptop manufacturer to decide if they want to make the card available if the 8800 is capable of being produced in mxm II format. Like my c90, if the 8800 is mxm II and Asus decides that the 8800 will cause too many heat problems even though it is possible they simply won't make a card for it.
Since mxm is not a universal format in terms of each manufacturer usually making their card propietary its really up to them and nvidia has nothing to do with since they don't actually manufacture the cards we buy. -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
^ You and me both and so are all the other sager and other mxm 15 inch owners.
Only thing is I probably won't get it intiially. What people don't realize is the card is more than $500. For the 15 inch it already comes with an 8600 gs and its an additional 500 for the 8800. Th 8600 gt ddr2 is about 180 so you figure the gs is about the 100-140 price range. I can't justify paying 600 for a card (even though it will probably be very powerful) when my ddr2 overclocked still holds up nicely. Hell I can play cod4 at 1680 x 1050 with near max settings at respectable fps. Only game thats putting a real strain of course is crysis and gears I think will run fine at 1280 x 1024 with overclocking. I will probably wait and see if the 9600 will be availbale and if not upgrade to the 8800 when my 8600 really starts struggling.
THis is all assuming that it is mxmII. Even though the card is expensive its a step in the right direction with the size/efficiency/performance factor.
Not to get the thread off topic but the pics are interesting. Though I want to see dellienwares solution for this wonder of a 15 inch that can handle a quad core and the 8800 in terms of cooling. -
I really should have waited for the mobile 8800gtx to come out, I wish I could send back my 1520 and order one of these.
-
I can't think of better marketing... -
.
That said, I'm pretty sure it's going to be extremely pricey...
It's a 400 bucks Upgrade to a 8800GTX from the SLI 8600M GT, that'd bring the 15.4'' into the "no way I'm paying this much for a mobile" range for me (that'd be 1399.99+400 = 1799.99). Plus another 2GB of RAM stick for about 50-60 bucks, and at least a T7500 for +50 bucks, and it's already 1.9K.
If I had 1.9K to blow, I'd just build myself a kick ass Desktop with SLI 8800GTX. It's a shame Crysis doesn't have proper SLI support (I hear it's glitchy), so the SLI 8800GTX probably won't improve performance by much.
-
-
And the pic is a marketing one that I got in my email from Alienware as well.
Although I guess if the pic is accurate, the system will have a backlit keyboard.... and from my physical pics, the Alienware alphabet does show up on the bottom of the notebook(s). -
Other than that, I think a red glow can actually get annoying during regular use... -
Yeah, I am not too excited about extra lights or LEDs.
I just want the power and build quality to be good.... as well as good pricing. -
Larger teasers:
-
Oh... sorry, this was posted just recently... with teasers mainly.
2-3 days ago had the main story:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/13/alienware-m15x-m17x-laptops-revealed-with-nvidia-8800m-gtx/
... which NBR had pointed out to them. -
I absolutely love that the notebooks are getting the "alien" custom look, it really makes that alienware notebook stand out, and not just another notebook..
-
From the sounds of the LED keyboards, this might not be so subtle as well, however there's still hope (LED off/on switch?) -
just added the teaser pics to the main post.
-
Just as a random note - in the customization screenshot, does anyone else find it entertaining that their graphic ads says that 2.33Ghz is the "fastest mobile processor available", yet lists faster 2.4, 2.6, and even 2.8Ghz processors underneath it?
-
Well, you may find it funny that they advertize a AMD 64-bit Athlon X2 processors as one of the advantages of these notebooks...
However, these notebooks weren't officially on the site as was said many times. -
They give the 8800m the MXM-2 format and I'd be one happy 15-incher owner, though there are still other things to contemplate on (heat, mine's no C90 and the VGA bios)
-
do you guys think that new clevo like mine (570ru) or d901k need a new mother board revision to get 8800 ?
Btw, this 8800 is g80 or g92 processor (90nm or 65nm) ?
if the 8800 is this :
we will live happly ever after -
That's an off-topic now but here is a rebranded version of the Clevo M570RU
http://www.killernotebooks.com/executioner_sr/executionersr_order_page.html
Not sure whether it comes with earplugs standard or you should upgrade to them aftermarket... -
I'm pretty sure its a g92.
I want one of these, badly.... I think I'm going to have to finagle a way to get one by the begining of next year, I hope the IRS is kind to me =p
