We are all aware of how disgustingly sweet the new Alienware m17x Laptop is.. However I just have one concern. What configurations do you recommended on this new gaming powerhouse without breaking your wallet in half? How low in configurations can you go before gameplay begins to suffer? Should you go all out and get the QUAD CPU? or could you get by using 2 Dual Core instead?

    Thanks!!

This isn't a budget laptop, it's more of the pinnacle of high end gaming components; so you can't go in with a tight wallet (although pricing is much better than previous years). If you need something more budget minded look into the Asus W90. In order to exceed the performance of the W90, you'd need to spend an extra chunk of change on the Alienware M17X and get the 280M SLi and the quad core CPU's.

If you're convinced on staying on the M17x on a budget, I suggest getting the base CPU, and a single 280M. You can always upgrade the CPU later when they are cheaper, and add the 2nd 280M later on down the road. Also, don't pay for any extra memory or hard drive stuff.

Even at the starting $1799 configuration, this thing is no slouch.
