I am a picky game player, and more often than not I buy a game and just CAN NOT get into it. Bioshock is one of the rare games I have been able to really get into. Fable was one of those games as well. Haven't played Fable 2 yet, might get that, but I dunno.
What would you gamers recommend I pick up next?

That's an easy one: Mass Effect. It sounds like you kind of like slightly more fantastic, RPGish sort of stuff. Mass Effect is easily my favorite game from the last couple years.
-
Crysis is my favorite game but since it is so well known, I am assuming that you have already tried this. Even on low / medium settings and custom config, I still enjoy playing this on my G1SN laptop along side Crysis Warhead.
I also second mass Effect and don't forget about some of the older games that are simply excellent like Riddick. If you tell us what other games you like, we will get more idea of what you might enjoy next. -
Fallout 3 hands down.
Bioshock meets fable.
I liked Bioshock A TON, and I liked Fable a lot as well.
And I LOVED Fallout 3.
...give it an hour though, it's got a very slow start. Once past that though, I played about 150 hours. -
yeah, im trying to get into to Fallout 3, but im not really into RPG's, i guess i just really hate talking to 500 billion people about stuff thats not real. The VATS system is cool, and the combat, so far, is enticing. I hope the game gets a lot better fast, as i really dont like playing a game that makes me do "odd-jobs" around the house.
-
I've put over 100 hours in, beat it. Now playing it again with Mods just for kicks.
Tips for having fun playing Fallout 3:
1. Be an evil character.
2. Don't rush through the main quest, It's actually pretty short.
(I completed every side quest in the game before finishing the main quest.)
3. EXPLORE!! -
I gues you can say I do like fantastical-type games, just not in any way a MMORPG type of guy. Could never get into WOW, EQ, or the like.
I also enjoied Half-Life 2, but I really don't know anyone who didn't.
I'll have to check out a trailer for Fallout 3 and Mass Effect. They sound interesting!
Feel free to keep sharing the ideas. I am still a gaming n00b, so this will help me NOT have to watch a billion game trailers, lol. -
I support this post 100%.
Fallout 3 is amazing, you can literally explore the world for months and find new things each time.
Remember to grab the "Vegeance" gattling laser as early as you can, that thing is crazy. -
Umm, get the DLC for fallout 3 (did it come out on PC?) and be sneaky and primarily use melee
(my personal favorite), then, find the cannibals and get the ripper

Dead Space. Amazing third-person action/horror, in the same vein as Bioshock.
Trailer. -
Fallout 3 is by far one of the best games released within the last year. I normally get bored with most games and never finish them, on my third play through of Fallout 3 now. Mass Effect and Dead Space seem like really great games and are high on my list. Unfortunately, LOTRO has sucked me back in for the time being.
-
That looks REALLY good. I'm going to have a hard time choosing between Fallout 3 and Dead Space. -
Fallout 3...
Dead Space is awesome but gets really old really fast. -
The game isn't that scary, but it really keeps you on edge, and I'm loving it.
I'm only on Chapter 3 ATM, and apparently there are 12
Really enjoying this. -
Fallout 3 for sure, especially with the new online expansion content. HUGE original game and now they are adding three more area expansions. Fallout 3 can keep you busy for weeks if not months!
-
I'd issue a strong warning against fallout 3. Also just coming from Bioshock, I really miss the nice linear levels and plot development. Gameplay is also as good if not better in bioshock with its genuine FPS feel. In Fallout 3, its more of a VATS - hide - VATS - hide - VATS. You do more damage in VATS and you're not very accurate out of VATS. Makes the game boring and takes not much skill.
Fallout 3's leveling system is alright I suppose. Far better than Oblivions but that's not saying much. Bioshock's plasmid/tonics system makes you feel a lot stronger than what you get in Fallout 3. I suppose the main problem with it is that its extremely incremental.
Pretty much there isn't a game after Bioshock that's not going to make you feel letdown after the masterpiece that was Bioshock. I won't, however, recommend fallout 3. -
Alright.... I just came from a friends house playing Fallout 3 on Xbox 360.
I am not in love with it. I am hoping it gets better, from what I keep hearing the more you play the better it gets. I didn't like the VATS system either, as stated above, but I understand you don't HAVE to use it so it's not a deal breaker.
I don't know though, still could pick it up. -
The problem with VATS is, if you don't use it your ammunition runs out pretty quick.
I'll second Dead Space or upcoming F.E.A.R 2 (Though I don't guarantee it will be fun). Mass Effect is pretty good too since now its available through Steam.
I prefer a solid single play through than tons of replayability, I'm a lazy guy. -
Same here
it feels to familiar the second time around and I usually get bored.
Plus there are so many games today, I don't feel like playing it more than once
I haven't played fallout 3 yet, as I'm not really into RPGs, I chose to get Dead Space, and I am really enjoying it -
To conserve ammo (budget problems)
Kills quicker/does more damage (so you don't get hurt. healing yourself is expensive early on and also damages your armor)
Because there isn't much of an alternative - non-VATS shooting is inaccurate (alleviated somewhat by skills in the particular gun skill) because it will shoot within a target area except for certain guns -
+1 for fallout 3
but i agree that there is no single player game that tops bioshock -
I'd say another vote for Fallout, though Mass Effect should be worth a look...
FEAR 2 demo is out, you could try that for free and see if you like it. If you do you can probably get the first fear for a bargain price of like 20 bucks at a local gamestop. Doesn't shine as brightly in the graphics department as it once did, but it's still a good looking game. Pretty fast paced too. (Don't bother with the expansions as they have been disregarded by Monolith and aren't part of the true story.) -
if your feeling for it. go for system shock 2. brilliant game, but can be a little hard on your eyes since it's very old.
-
i think the se/ce whatever version of fear include the original fear 1 as well and it's only £5 more than the standard retail version, saw it on a site from uk. -
What does everyone think of Left 4 Dead? Looks pretty cool.
Also, am I too hardware limited for Crysis? -
Crysis will run, yes. To what level, I am not sure, with the SLi maybe you could get away with Med/ some things on High, I don't really know. (Don't worry, even on med the game still looks good)
If you end up liking Crysis, you can also get Crysis Warhead.
Left 4 Dead is good- but the game is sort of limited in my opinion. After you beat the 4 story modes, that's it. And they haven't announced if the expansion will cost money or be free, as I guess it's still undecided at this time. I'd wait for the details first. -
stalker: clear sky is good to play
-
idk what is so good about fallout 3. I like it its good.
but not OBLIVION good(i actually need to find someplace to buy pc oblivion since i dont have a 360 anymore) -
) on my notebook in sig with a single 8700gt, so you should be ok.
-
try a scary game like dead space(im playing it now holy I have to put it down every 20 minutes its so intense.)
-
Left 4 Dead is AWESOME.
Any Valve game is awesome to be honest. -
Doesn't have solid single player experience (Lacking of story... seriously) but overall a very good game especially playing with your friends in campaign or versus.
-
It's not that scary
This is how I play it
I keep playing until I hit a place where loads of monsters come at me, overwhelm me and I DIE
I try a few more time, and if i keep dying I turn off the game, and do something esle, often for the whole day [or night].
The game is scary if you lay at night with all the lights off and headphones on.
I was doing this, and my mom put my hand on my shoulder [without any warning] and I almost wet myself, ALMOST
-
Crysis Warhead is prob. my favorite game of all time...along with the legendary MAss Effect. Which is the BEST RPG ever.
-
The next game you play should be a good one although since you like Bioshock I don't think it will be.
-
Also, tons of people loved Bioshock, it's a critically acclaimed game, it won plenty of awards, and it was commercially a large success... You are probably the minority saying it's a bad game. -
Bioshock is great, one of the few games I enjoy playing through multiple times, actually in the middle of a game now in fact.
FEAR is a GREAT one if you never played it, and I'm really looking forward to FEAR 2. Dead Space is really cool if you like horror/scary type games.
As for Fallout3, parts of it I really like, but I just struggle with harder core RPG's in general I suppose, either can't get into them, or get bored with the endless tasks... and combat is ok if you like the VATS, but not very impressive without it. Worth looking at, but wasn't on my top list of favorites. -
I wouldn't necessarily recommend Fallout 3 either. I really enjoyed Oblivion, the exploring and the combat was fun, even though I grew bored after about 100 hours (I got more than my money's worth though!). I was excited about Fallout 3, even went and bought Fallout 1 and 2 from Gog.com. Man are those antiquated graphics, lol.
But Fallout 3 is too slow and cumbersome IMHO. Lots of time wasted traveling from place to place, and as others have said, VATS is critical, which I learned the hard way after wasting all my ammo. A little confusing too as you try to figure out what to keep, what weapons work best, etc. I know it's part of the "fun" but frustrating when you know you need to remember where you found that one weapon, or realize starting over is quicker to find everything that you really need. There's also many locations where you kill lots of people and get little reward, where it's basically a building of bad guys that shoot at you the second you blink for no good reason.
For me, it is "only" a good game, but probably great if you're an RPG gamer or a huge fan of the original games.
Now that I've bashed Fallout 3 enough, how about another suggestion?
I think Far Cry 2 is better than Fallout 3. It's more action/fps than rpg, and won't take quite as long to get through. Mass Effect is also another good one. I like space based scenario's though. Mass Effect has it's frustrating and boring parts too though. Or possibly try Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider Underworld, or Prince of Persia. Those last ones are more action/adventure with some fps elements, but still fun, and have great eye candy (especially Tomb Raider)
-
Man I've been afraid to buy Fallout 3 for a while now. I just hate buying games when they're getting such mixed reviews. Some are talking Game Of The Forever, while some say "Dubya Tee Eff is this ****?"
Dammit not releasing a demo? Terrible decision.
I am downloading Crysis Warhead right now. I'll let you know what I think. -
You can always try the... "demo".
-
Crysis Warhead is a great game.
You'll enjoy it
The only thing is I have it heard it is short so I'm not playing it alot as I don't want it to finish fast -
I enjoyed both Crysis games, and Warhead more than the first. It is a short game, but lots of fun.
Almost through Bioshock.... What should I pick up next?
