I would like to build a gaming rig. A desktop PC. i want to build it piece by piece and learn how things work.
I would like some advise. I want a rig (CPU/GPU) that is top of the line and will run games spec'd out for years to come.
I would like to spend about $1000 but may go over a bit.
Can anyone tell me a great setup...a list of each component from CPU to GPU to motherboard..i have a write up on "how" to put the PC together and what components i need, but im looking for advise on the best components and compatability.
Please help i really want to take on this project and have an amazing gaming rig.
Main usage will be for gaming/movies-entertainment and lots of internet
Thank you soo much i love this site and i lern a new thing every day![]()

First off, we know to know, do you want with or without SLI/ Xfire?
-
Not sure what that SLi and cross fire mean? can you explain? Also what is the best CPU/GPU combination (for the money and straight up) on the market right now for a PC?
-
$1,000 is a pretty slim budget if you expect the PC to be a top performer for 4 years. $1,000 is about the minimum you need to get games running on maximum just for this year's games (and this even includes a little bit of overclocking). If you could spend around $2k, then we would be a little closer to building a machine that could offer a little more performance longevity.
Honestly, you better get in touch with some very good over-clockers because your goals and constraints are going to require some pretty extreme OC'ing. I'm not saying your constraints are impossible but you are definitely going to be pushing some limits. -
2) See above
3) IMO something like a Q9550 and a HD 4870x2 ( which actually comes out to about $900 )
4) Post on DTR for more assistance. -
Thanks for your cooperation.
Alright PC Guru's..i call on you for your wisdom
