Hello,
I've been noticing that there is only one type of game being released for the PC these days : the first-person shooter. Am I the only who hates them ? I honestly don't understand how people enjoy such games.
I personally enjoy games that you can play for shorts amounts at a time.. and don't need to spent 60 hours straight unless you want to....
I prefer Simulation games and Racing games. A good puzzle or board game from time to time is good too.
Games currently playing the most are :
-Flight Simulator 2004
-Live for Speed
-Grid Wars (some clone of Geometry Wars)
-And lots of those Windows Entertainment Pack games...
What do you fellow FPS haters play ?
-
I guess you`re the only one
-
you can play fps for 30 min if you wanted to. you dont have to go extreme like those insomiacs and pee in a cup
. when i dont play fps i play some shoot em up games (little ship/person flies around the screen shooting enemies) or some puzzel games.
btw i think board games are dead. when was the last time you went to a party and hear lets play some monopoly or scrabble or candy land. its now like lets play some soul calibur 4 or some super smash brothers or something like that. -
-
Yes... you must play FPS for 60 hours straight... it's law. And I guess you are the only one that doesn't like them
they are fun online.... oh, and I usually play in 30 minutes bursts between homework breaks. The irony in this is you like simulation games..... but complain about time spent in FPS xD
I like playing all sorts of games... I'm not picky of what genre it is, as long as it's good. -
Board games have their followings. Stuff like Settlers and Risk are more involved than monopoly, which is at best a game of chance - at worst a struggle to convince the naive player to trade a strong monopoly for a utility and a 'get out of jail free' card.

You must be the only one, my generation grew up on Wolfenstein and doom. And well to a lesser extent in school we always played oregon trail and went meat hunting
-
Didn't know that so few people actually hated FPS games.... So I really am alone ...
-
I am also another HUGE FPS fan ... my game library is dominated by them. But I also like other game types such as sports games, 3rd person action/shooters, RTS games, a little platforming here and there ... so pretty much I like a lot of games but my favorites are mostly FPS games.
You are not alone though because my uncle is a huge gamer and he pretty much hates FPS games (except for Half Life), he said it's stupid that you "only see your gun" -
Check out Mirror's Edge. I don't consider myself a huge FPS fan... and I'm very interested.
It's like what FPS games should be. -
That does look pretty hot.
-
I love all game types equally, some are just more equal than others. ;-)
-
I know how you feel. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who dislikes all games except FPS games. I may rarely venture out to a third-person shooter, but that's it.
-
why are you looking for FPS haters on a gaming sub-forum on a notebook website. go outside and 9 out of 10 people will not play FPS games just like you.
FPS is one of very few games you can play in few short bursts provided there are quick saves. RPG and RTS games take a lot longer to make progress.
actually you'll be hard pressed to find an FPS that offers more than 10-15 hours of gaming.
edit: i don't think there are overwhelming amount of FPS coming out over other genres. it's just that FPS's and MMO's are much more highly publicized and hyped. -
i will play the occasional fps (generally cod1 or cod4) but other than that, they are all the same..........fps games are incredibly repetitive.........give some nice tactical old school wargames.
-
Although FPS isnt my favourite genre I certainly don't HATE them.
I only hate poor quality games, no matter what kind they are -
FPS Isn't the most addictive games. WoW Is tho. I had a whole bunch
of bottles filled with pee in my room cos I was too busy to go to the bathroom.
After 3 weeks they start to smell funny tho. -
thats hitting rock bottom man haha.
-
Rock bottom would be peeing on the floor
I never pee on the floor tho cos I'm not animal.
I have spitted on the floor on several occasions tho XD -
well, for me on the pc it goes:
MMO
RPG
FPS
and strategy
puzzle and such being the worst.
xbox however:
FPS
RPG
only types i play on it, though ocassionally guitar hero. :S
FPS's arent my favs, but i dont hate them. -
I think the reason so many fps games come out for PC is that the PC is just much more ideal for fps games, whereas with racing, arcade, and that type of stuff, you can have them on consoles. I don't think simulations are very popular at all, so that's probably why they aren't that common for the PC.
I for one, love fps games =] I agree to whoever said they get repetitive though, since many times it's the same thing over and over. However, it's fun when you get competitive and start having scrims and stuff, even though I'm not all that good it's just intense I guess haha.
and to whoever said WoW is addicting.. I bought the game and thought it was more boring than doing nothing, and then afterwards my friend convinced me to buy a 6 month subscription, and I thought I could just sell my account afterwards to make a slight profit, but in the end, even the incentive to play because I had the subscription was not enough to bring me back into that game..
of course, that's just me =] if you like it then I'm happy for you -
I'd agree with KidProdigy. Mouse and Keyboard is the only way to go for FPS and that has a lot to do with all the FPS's we're seeing. Yet, you're not alone. I'm not a huge fan of FPS's myself. I can only play TF2 for like a couple of hours before wanting a break. Which is not bad but I can play MMOs for much longer.
The thing about games like WoW, which is MMOs in general, is the community. If you're not playing with enough friends, the experience tends to weaken. Building a strong, small (or large) community with friends is what really amplifies the experience. Playing an MMO alone is pretty much just a waste of cash. -
Haven't played a FPS since Counter-strike on the school's network years ago.
They're fun while they last but they're not my type of game and I never include the genre in my list of games to buy. -
fps have to be the easiest and most stress relieving games to get into
just pick up a gun and shoot
I personally dont have the patience for games like world of warcraft or slow paced games. -
I'm not a huge FPS fan myself, prefer RTS and military sims (tank, plane, etc). But certain FPS's are great fun like: Half-Life 2, Call of Duty 4, Doom 3. I'm not a big fan of the run and gun shoot-em ups with little variety though (i.e. Serious Sam).
Just a matter of taste I guess. FPS's are quick to pick up and learn with fast action that usually can be stopped at any time, unlike many RTS or simulation games. -
Yeah, you're the only one
-
I've tried Halo 3 on the console a few days ago. Find the controls annoying but got used to it in a while. I'm still better off with mouse and keyboard, but the co-op mode is fun. Can't imagine running it in solo mode. I'll just throw it aside.
Oh yea, I hate FPS (there's some exceptions).. so you're not the only 1 -
Not all FPS games are long, like Call of Duty for example, or even have a real single player, like Unreal Tournament, but they offer a lot of additional hours online and that's the part that is most fun. However, there are some FPS games like Half Life and Bioshock that are pretty long games with an involved story instead of just randomly shooting and blowing stuff up.
-
A lot of FPS games suck out there, but if you try and play the right ones, you'll love the FPS genre.
Lately, there's nothing insane like when RTCW came out, or when the Unreal Tournament (99) demo was released. COD4 is alright but it's just the same formula as the other COD's. It's a good game but that's about it. The other problem is games are easy nowadays to beat. You go through the single player in like 5-8 hours at the hardest difficulties. Some companies are focusing too much on visuals and at first your jaw drops but then you realize what a piece of **** it actually is (I'm looking at you, Crysis!)
I still play Doom 1 and 2 with the zdoom port, and I'm waiting for Quake Live to be ready -
i love all the of genres( except board unless it's monopoly) the key is getting the best and right one for you there are a lot of bad ones. that's why im still able to play half-life 1 because it's just that good of a game.
-
I also love rts and racing games but I tend to stick to a specific franchise in each. I grew up on Command & Conquer and Need for Speed, so these are a must. Plus, there's the occasional Prince of Persia, Trackmania, and GTA. -
Ut3 Warfare is VERY fast paced. Each round usually has a 20-minute time limit, and there's LOTS of stuff to do: kill opponents, capture nodes, and pilot some pretty insane vehicles (especially Necris Darkwalkers and Axion Leviathans), etc... It's a great workout for your reflexes and hand-eye coordination.
It's hard to walk away from heated FPS fire fights, but when you must, just shut down the PC and take a stroll outside -
I actually converted from wargames/strategy to FPS. I could say convert since I never play Strategy/Wargames anymore and I am 30 years old
FPS and Racing games is most fun to me. Especially FPS games where in some you actually feel like you are there. -
FPS games are just plain old fun. There is also a HUGE variety of FPS games.
I been gaming for years, and FPS games were always my number one favs. There are a ton of different ones out there with loads of variety. -
I'm pretty sure it's easier to play for short amounts of time in an FPS than it is in Guild wars, if you're in the middle of a mission
-
How can one dislike the first-person-shooter genre? It's like saying you don't like comedy movies and you don't understand why others do. FPS's are very well done and lots of fun. As for the 60 hours of playing comment, I dont know where you picked up on that idea.
