I don't know the best forum for this, but seeing as how it is a graphics problem, I thought I'd try here. Hopefully one of you wizards can help me!

I have Intel 4500MHD graphics on a docked Lenovo X200 laptop with displayport and VGA outputs.

I have 2 displays with different resolutions hooked up to the dock:
    VGA: Monitor (1920 x 1200)
    DisplayPort: TV (1920 x 1080)

I only use the TV for watching movies and do all my work on the VGA Monitor. I want to be able to switch from my PC monitor to the TV very easily and quickly because I do it often.

Right now I'm using a Ctrl-Alt-F1 / F4 shortcut to switch between the displays. This is a keyboard shortcut integrated into the Intel graphics control panel that switches between the VGA/Digital outputs. The shortcut is very fast and easy to do, but it doesn't work quite right!

The problem is that when I switch from my monitor to the TV that the resolution changes to 1776 x 1000 (why?). I then have to go into the graphics properties and change to the proper resolution (PITA). When I switch back to the monitor the resolution stays at 1920 x 1080 and I have to - again - go into the graphics properties and change to the proper resolution of 1920 x 1200.

Can anyone suggest why this is happening and how to solve the problem? I just want to be able to switch between the 2 displays in their native resolutions quickly and easily. Thanks for any help!

I dunno whats the problem, but I use UltraMon which helps with multiple monitor setups alot. In there is the option to assign keyboard shortcuts to different monitor setups with preset resolutions, etc.... The only issue is that it costs money.

Alternatively, I've heard that DisplayFusion is a potential alternative and it has a free version.

    Thanks for the suggestion, TevashSzat.

I tried using DisplayFusion first, but it didn't have the ability to switch monitors like I want. I then tried UltraMon, even though it isn't freeware, but it didn't help either.

I ultimately discovered a piece of command-line software called "display changer" from 12noon software that is freeware and does exactly what I need. I have 2 batch files linked to 2 function buttons on my keyboard that switch the monitor for me now and my problem is solved.

I have to wonder why the intel control panel doesn't do this correctly though. The intel software switches the display just fine, but doesn't do so at the corrrect native resolution of the panel. The 12noon software does though. Maybe it is a bug?
