Hey guys,
My laptop seems to be getting incredibly hot of late and I think that this is because for once in the uk, the air temperature is quite hot. Today I was playing Quake 3 (multplayer modded) and my gpu core hit 89C - my fan for the first time was at full speed. This is far too hot for me seeing that I haven't overclocked and plus the heat really gets to my hands. In normal uk temperature the max temperature it hits is about 80C.
I here about the fault that nvidia gpu's have in that when the update comes in for my sony, all it will do is activate the fan sooner :/ .
Are there anyways how I can reduce the temperture - is it worth taking the risk in undervolting the CPU? Also, will fiddling about with powermizer do anything i.e. switch if off? Finally, is this worth reporting to Sony or is will be an utter waste of time if I do that?

Other then AS5(arctic silver 5) and dusting your laptop out the only thing is to mod your case for better cooling. None of these are for the faint of heart and as for modding your chassis for better cooling I have done this once and it was to my 5672 which for the last few months sat at home as a desktop atop a massive cooler.

you should clean out your vents first with a can of compressed air.

Prop up your laptop on something.
It can drop temps mad good.
In fable I hit 90C once, so I stuck a toner carton in the little bay where the battery goes. Giving it maybe 1" off the desk. My temps went from 90C to ~77C.
Gonna buy a laptop cooler soon though. Zalman NC1000. -
There's no risk in undervolting the CPU.
I'd do it -
Thanks for the help. -
and, if you do undervolt there is a kind of risk involved, if you undervolt it too much things will stop working.. so be careful if you do that. It also decreases performance if you arent aware -
Um, undervolting doesn't reduce perf. Underclocking does, but not undervolting.
