Anybody know the pros and cons?

Will I regret the system that I got in my sig?

I've always wondered because all desktop LCDs are matte but then everyone is all on this glossy dealy. Will it make a big difference?

its not too big a deal one way or another. you just won't want bright light sources directly behind you, and the colors will pop a little more and be a little more cinematic, in return.

    I don't think you would.

One thing I think is that matte screens have gotten a lot better. I haven't seen the Dell ones yet, but at least with the MBP and some others, they are much brighter and more vibrant.

The whole benefit of glossy screens used to be that they really did make colors seem richer/more vibrant than matte screens, but I think that isn't such a big differentiating factor any more.

@zadillo - one thing i will say is that the apple screens are not that glossy when compared to other brands.

i think thats a good thing. the colors are definitely richer on the glossy screen, and there is definitely glare when a light source is behind it. but the whole thing isn't that big a deal with apple. they are both similar.

with other brands the difference is likely to be wider, just because apple doesn't gloss the screens that much.

I personally cant stand the glossy. Its nice when your sitting directly infront of the screen, in a moderatly light room. Definatly not good for showing your friends a game or movie...unless your in a darker/less lit room.

Yeah, true. Although even on the PC side, it seems like different companies have different levels of glossiness; the Acers I've seen seem to be super glossy, while I've seen some glossy Dell screens that don't seem to be nearly as reflective.

If I would not be able to see it first and compare. On "blind date" I would definately go with Anti-Glare (Matte).
With all those Glossy ones, instead of picture I see myself  too much reflection, like a freaking mirror. Room has to be way to dark to get pros insted of cons of Glossy screen.
With Apple I will double check :)

I think your set up is just fine, I had matte for 6 years and now have glossy 10 months. In bright light glossy suffers very much. Matte less so, I think matte looks nice. Glossy adds a little bang but not so much I would go out of my way to get it. Your eyes and brain adjust.

Um, I prefer matte. However, I guess glossy would be useful to look for hot girls behind you in class or something.

I went to compusa to check out different screen resolutions and happened to notice a matte screen and a glossy screen side by side and there is a huge difference. Glossy screens are so much more vibrant, they really hit the highs and lows in contrast and color. I didn't think it would be as big of a difference as it was. The glossy did reflect everything light source near it though, but so does my non hd tv.
