    Hi

I have an 8400gs card, and i am quite surprised.

I have been trying games like Brothers in Arms, which dont let you change the Antalising options in-game, so i decided to go to the nvidia pannel. There i have tried setting it to 4x, 8x, 8xQ and all types and names possible. However, when playing, the AA is not on.

I have the latest drivers, and i have even tried going back, to see if that solved it, withoug luck.

Could you help me? :( thanks

make sure "enhance in-game AA" is not checked!

If you look at the pic, AA is pretty much there(4X AA is a lot, if you want clearer picture, you could turn op the AA, but lose many frames)...
Try turning V-sync off, I think that would help on the bunkers, and LOD Bias to "clamp"

Some games (Like Halo PC) you can't turn on AA. I don't know about that game though.....

but the weird thing is that i could get Antialising with my Acer 5920 (with a 8600gt) in the same game: Brothers in arms, earned in blood.

Well, I think your screenshot looks good for a 8400GS...
Its not a powerful card, so 4X AA is enough, and you should be more than happy if the game runs smooth :)

there is no AA on that screen. If you actually saw it on full screen, you would notice that the game is dusgusting, alll is full of little squares!!!

but the weird thing is that i could set AA with the acer 5920 i had, with a 8600gt!!! i promise!!!!!

    please helppppp

maybe its just because the 8600GT is a MORE POWERFUL CARD so then it handles AA easily.... someone already mentioned the 8400 is NOT a powerful card... therefore, dont expect the same settings for the 8600GT and the 8400 GS. These 2 cards are MILES apart in performance.

i dont agree with you. i had the acer 5920, and the performance compared to 8400gs is about 30-35% faster

how can you then explain the lack in performance ? U said it urself that its terrible with the 8400. Its because the cards are not equal in performance. the 8600 GT is a performance card and could handle current games in mid-high settings. The 8400 is a mainstream card and u can only expect low-mid settings. Adding AA is putting more strain on the GPU, so expect lower framerates, or lesser performance than the 8600 GT.

What is anti-liasing in the first place?

Turning it on makes your image on screen look less jagged around the edges.

I recommend going to tweakguides.com and reading up on their guides for more detailed information.

    Touchee.
But I still don't if its good or bad. Some people seem to not want it, but it's supposed to make your image smoother? O_.

Everybody wants to have AA in their game! But at high resolutions it's not necessary, and WILL result in fps loss

I rarely use AA, because my screen is WSXGA+

Well, at high resolution and small pixel pitch it is unnecessary. My laptops a 15.4" screen with WSXGA+, so the pixel pitch is small, res is high, so I don't worry about AA. On my 22" LCD with WSXGA+ the pixel pitch is bigger, and thus, a little AA is great.

Well you can't expect the 8400gs to have great AA performance since it is a low end card with a smaller memory bandwidth. Generally you don't expect good AA performance until you get to the high end like the 8800 series.

Real men don't need AA, because real men have their monitor in space.
