The desktop Radeon 4670 and 4650 get officially released today. Their performance beats the Nvidia 9500GT but is behind the 9600GSO.
The most exciting thing about this card for notebook users though was this line taken from Fudzilla's article today.
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=9334&Itemid=34
"RV730 will also be known as the card with least power consumption and with the best performance for a card without an external connector."
Could this card make it into 14" or smaller laptops?
-
I hope so!! Just stick it in a 14" or smaller Lenovo and I might have to trade in my T61p for it. -
From reading this, I've noticed it's a desktop card. Don't get your hopes high, usually the transition from desktop to notebook ends up loosing performance, or they [ATi] never end up releasing this card for a notebook.
-
My point is that if the desktop version uses such little power to provide great (relatively speaking) performance, then there is potential for the notebook 4600 to make it into smaller notebooks notebooks like 14.1" or 13.3" that have more restrictive heat and power limitations. -
3650 is barely available now... so as much as I want a 4670 it would be a mistake to hold my breath for it.
BTW - the mobility 2600 was really good. The 3650 is even better. As an NV guy the AMD stuff really caught me by surprise. -
Bump
Announced at CES

Well given that 9600M GT is available on 14" I am sure HD46x0 would be the same..
-
Although, I kinda wish it had higher memory bus though. Then again this card should probably be able to reach up to the 9700M GTS levels. -
But comparing a desktop 4670 to a 9600GSO is a very childish act. Like said, gpu losses more power when it is converted into a laptop card. It is unwise (or plain idiocy) to compare desktop and notebook cards.
I'm putting my bet on the 4670 to be able to punch a hole through the 9600M GT. -
Well it seems like the mobile HD4000 series will come pretty close to their desktop variants
-
Yeah, isn't 9600GSO a desktop one?
the 9700m/9600m/9500m is the same as 9500GT btw -
That's the 8600GT rebranded, it's the EXACT same card aside from clock speeds.
The desktop 9600GT was rebranded for notebooks as the 9800m GS and is NOT available in thin and light notebooks. The desktop 9600GT is more than twice as fast as the notebook 9600mGT. -
"The 4800 series chipsets will use GDDR5 memory, an improvement from the GDDR3 memory found in the Radeon 3000 series. They will have support for Direct X 10.1, which has improved anti-aliasing, shadows, and global illumination. HD playback is fully supported, as well, all the way up to 1080p. The best part is that these new GPUs are pin-to-pin compatible with the older ones, so the cards will easily swap into an existing system."
-
Hmm... then there's obviously a non-MXM 3.0 version.
-
Would the 46XX come in MXM-II, so that someone, with say a 9600M GT could replace their card with this
Because from what I've read, this baby PWNS the 9600M GT -
The MSI GX623 (15.4"), has a Mobility 4670.
-
Hopefully that means it may be an MXM-II card
-
I want a bench on this 4670 gpu !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Same here
I'm waiting -
9600M DDR3 is about even with a desktop 9500 GT as is. How much faster do you think the mobile 4670 will really be? I'd say 20% tops, if the desktop to mobile transition is perfect.
-
Desktop 4670 = Desktop 9600 GSO = 9800M GT.
It it runs anything the same it will completely dominate the entire mid-range even up to the 9800M GTS. -

I have an ATi Radeon HD4670 and I gotta say I am throughly pleased. I got it for 70dlrs and so far performs almost like my 9800m GS.
If the dekstop performance is somehow retained for the mobility versions (which I doubt but I still hold high hopes) then we will have a very powerful mid range card.
I am even considering getting an Asus W90 with dual HD4870sso much power

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
im actually thinking now to go with a notebook with just one 4870, i mean its DDR5 so the performance should be really good.
Then im worried crossfire might not be supported in all games, if it comes down to it ill just have to pick up the W90 until one single 4870 appears in a notebook.
a 4000 series card is definitely gonna be in my next notebook. -
, if one overclocked the card back to the desktop clocks, it would crush the 9800m.
ATI raised the bar pretty high this time around... Unless Nvidia magically manage to squeeze the the G94 in regular mid-range notebooks I don't know what they are going to do... -

Anothergeek, i tried not to laugh when i saw your 3Dmarks score but i couldn't, not even 5600 with a T9600 and a ultra-OC 9600M GT is too much for me ;-) I love my 880$ laptop !!!
Poor DDR2 owner.... -
Well yours is 1280x800, I'd be over 6k if I could lower the res to that <.<
-
Oops, That is the explanation then ! I didn't notice it. Lol i'm going to cut my tongue ;-)

Checking it out now -
