Hey guys,
Been searching around looking to see if there are any 15-16" laptops that have 5870 or if it is even technically possible. So far no luck, anyone know of anything if there is any on the horizon or not possible?
If not then what could be the best I could get right now on a 15-16"? 5850? or the 5700 series?
Thanks guys.

Yes. Look for Clevo. If it had a GTX280/285, you should have an option for HD5870 now.
-
Sager NP8690 or Clevo W860CU
-
Next step down from the Clevo would be the MSI's 15.4" GX640 with Mob HD5850 (GDDR5) or 16" GT660 with GTX 285M.
-
hi Da1 and welcome to nbr.
as mentioned above you now have the option on the clevo range.
what part of the world are you in so we can point you in the right direction to suppliers. -
I think the GX640's 5850 only has GDDR3. Not a spectacular card.

Nope, the GX640 5850 has been confirmed to have GDDR5, in the US at least. (according to the latest spec sheets).
So hm, probably a pretty good card just a step down from the 5870? Competitive with the GTX 285/280? yeah I'd say probably. -
Wow guys thanks for the quick and awesome replies.
I'm in the UK, so it seems Clevo is my main choice with Sager or MSI an alternative?
Sounds great and I don't think there will be much better graphics than an 5870 on a 15" (correct me if I am wrong)
Also I don't have much experience and knowledge on Clevo or Sager laptops, how are they in general? Good reliable brands?
Any ideas if the 5870 will be restricted on the 15.4" inches like GDDR3 and lower clock rate.
thanks guys, much appreciate the help -
nope if you even want to try to get better graphics you need to wander into the 17" + machines

Yeah I think I just realized that Clevo don't actually sell laptops after googling for a while.
Any UK suppliers for Clevo laptops? I seem to find mostly in the states.
I am more than happy with a 5870 on a laptop, it is a very big step-up from my old x700 graphics on my old laptop which even still I play some online games on lol. It has been through a lot over the years with me but slowly dying away now.
I don't expect to do any heaving gaming, maybe a few online rpg's or a some recent games but not expecting to play everything on max settings but ofc the better the card the bigger the grin on my face -

PS: I've dealt with Rock before and I think that they are very trustworthy. I ordered one of their Rock Extreme line of laptops about a year ago (Clevo M860 based laptop) and I was leaving the country at the time, so I was going to cancel the order, but they promised to expedite it. When it arrived everything seemed fine, but after benchmarking the system for a few days, I realized that it was performing worse than it should have been (lost about 20% in 3DMark 06). They must have not run all the regular tests because of the rush. Either way, I called them up and they took the laptop with a full refund (including shipping both ways, which is not something they usually cover under their return policy and not something I brought up myself, they simply refunded it) without a hesitation and without trying to get me to get a replacement (they knew I was leaving).
The point is that ALL companies screw up sometime, but how they deal with it is what distinguishes the good ones.
PPS: I don't think Rock sells Clevos with 5870s right now, only GTX280M. -
I am sure there are UK suppliers where you can purchase the Sager notebook.
I just want to mention Deviltech.de which is a german notebook seller. They have all the latest models. I once ordered one of their notebooks and found the service to be great and delivery right on time. Their prices seems to be fair. -
Yeah thanks guys, it seems Kobalt System is probably my best bet, they seem to do the 15" with 5870 which is pretty nice. I have my eye on them now.
Price wise their not too bad but maybe it would be cheaper if I could somehow get them from the states.
I wonder if Asus will do the same. -
Kobalt is a very highly regarded reseller. Neil from Kobalt posts on these forums sometimes. They have awesome service and support, and decent prices.
Any 15-16" Laptops with 5870?
