I have missed out on so many RTS games over the years — having migrated over to consoles in mid 2000.

    Dawn of War series
Total War (everything after Rome 1 I missed)
    Company of Heroes 1&2
Men of War Assault Squad 2 (all the mods with that game).

Very much looking to get back into this Genre that really doesn’t get much love on consoles...

    Any fans? Any recommendations?

Just off the top of my head(and looking at my collection):

    Recommendations
Age of Empires Series (must play in my opinion, got me into RTS)
    Age of Mythologies
    Rise of Nations
Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends (If you can get past the art style)
Command & Conquer 3 (great story and great update; may have to play the previous entries to get wholistic story)
    Red Alert Series
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2 (never played the first but its appreciable for an RTS fan without having to be a LOTR fan)
    Supreme Commander Series
Starcraft (a little obvious but is popular for a reason)
Ashes of the Singularity (story is lame and mechanics are so so, but good overall from Stardock)
Homeworld Series (while more of a 4X games its worth checking out)
    World in Conflict

Worth checking out and off the beaten path
Frostpunk (while not a typcial RTS it's a great departure and management game)
Iron Harvest (recently got into this, advise playing the demo first though)
Order of War (think similar to Men of War)
    Sudden Strike Series
Elements of War (think similar to Men of War)

    That’s quite a list. Appreciated....

Had not heard of Order of War, looks a bit more like Steel Division... macro strategy.

Yeah I was a fan of Sudden Strike back in the day but SS4 was really disappointing. The enemy AI was awful. There was nothing dynamic about the ebb and flow of the combat.
    Was a shame.

I recently started playing SS4 and so far I share the same sentiments :AI is trash. I tried repairing and refueling and it seems like it just doesn't work.

I first played it as one of the demos that came on the Windows 98 CD. Haven't looked back since then......

My most favorite RTS is Halo Wars. If you're a Halo fan and an RTS fan, this is a must play for you.

Also there's Gears Tactics, which is also a must if you're an Xcom and Gears of War fan.

Used to play a lot of RTS games during my childhood - Blitzkried, Red Alert 2, Rise of Nations, Stronghold, Company Of Heroes, etc.
But these days don't play them anymore... Occasional TBS game like Civilization, but otherwise haven't played an RTS game for around 10 years... The last one I plaued was probably Red Alert 3.
Speaking of Red Alert, I should really grab that C&C Remastered one day, it really looks good.

I finally started playing Halo Wars a few days ago. It 's kinda so so for me so far. To be honest I have never played a Halo game before so much of the story line is beyond me. However HW seems more of a Halo branded RTS, particularly with the PC version feeling like a port from console. not too many thought out RTS mechanics in my opinion.

I'll agree with that. It's still my most favorite RTS though. I love it!

This is probably because I'm a big Halo fan.

Never got into Age of Empires.

I’m a fan of being able to zoom in and like nice graphics. Age of Enpires always seem a bit old school in the looks departments. The combat/battles seemed a bit pants too??

But the new one looks much better!

I used to be into Cossacks (for the big battles!).

But definitely a fan of Total War, Mount and Blade / Bannerlord (slightly different hybrid genre game).

But always wanted to play games like CoH, MoW:AS 2, DoW etc.

    But check this —

This is right up my street. Seems to have some great depth. And the Ai seems to be ok actually.

The AI killed that game for me. they were just stationary, nothing dynamic about them. Don’t attack really unless scripted to do so.

Shame. Because there was some tactical options there.

COH1 one of my top 5, played the he77 out of it. The number of skirmish add on maps is phenomenal.

    Yeah looking forward to that.

Loving Men of War: Assault Squad 2. It’s deep man. Lots of content. A lot of tactical depth. Exactly what I wanted.

I also got Medieval 2 Total War. When I had my PC 15 years ago I struggled to run that game. But my new little budget Ryzen 5 HP runs it really smooth! Without even a dedicated graphics card. My get Total War Empires....

I love RTS games :) In fact, the very first PC game I ever played was Command and Conquer Red Alert 2, which was soon followed by Command and Conquer Generals. These games literally got me hooked into gaming.

    My personal favorite RTS Titles:

Red Alert 2 and it's expansion, Yuri's Revenge
Command and Conquer Generals and it's expansion, Zero Hour
Company of Heroes, both 1 and 2.
Warcraft 3 and it's expansion, Frozen Throne.
    Battle Realms

The first Command & Conquer, as well as Red Alert 1 were my favorite. Notable mentions: Dune 2, Dune 2000 and Warcraft II.
