I recently upgraded my alienware m5550 to an 8600m GS 512mb card however whenever I install any driver other than 101.29 vista boots into a blank screen... vista boots though as I can tell from the startup sounds and hard drive LED. Also LCD is on just blank.
I never had this problem with my old 7600gs go... and always used most recent laptopvideo2go drivers with modded infs

It seems that I need a driver designed for 8600m GS (original inf must state 8600m GS)... or does anyone else know the problem perhaps?
Anyone else running 8600m GS 512mb with a different driver (acer bios on graphics card btw)

    OS = Vista 32bit SP1

Thanks in advance, REALLY need some help. :(

I cant seem to download a thing from them :(

    Any other links?

Has anyone else had this problem before? I've seen it documented on other forums/threads but never a solution. :(

Think these xtreme-g's will do the trick?

    thats a helluva old driver...

you should do a clean install of vista and try installing a a newer driver right from the get-go.

Willing to do it... IF it would work.
I dont see why the driver designed for 8600m GS is working and others with modded inf's will not (i've tried at least 9 different versions now).
Would a clean vista install fix this?
I've used driver sweeper before each driver install btw.

Also the clocks seem to be locked, would I need to reflash the bios of the card to unlock? or are newer drivers clockrates unlocked?

Thats exactly where I found the driver I'm using its the most recent one they have under "8600M GS" driver. :(

I tried the most recent XtremeG "mobile" driver 177.41 I believe it was in hopes that it being designed for "mobile gpu's" that it would function... but same problem... but on a good note, I tried hooking my desktop monitor to the DVI output and it works on there... I tried to navigate through nvidia CP to enable my laptop display, but it isn't detected. :(

So graphics card functions properly on new drivers but wont output to laptop display which is blank (but turns on as I can see the backlight is on, just no picture).

If nothing else is working give the DriverHeaven Mobility Modder a try, I had all kinds of trouble with the latest drivers and the modded inf, but the mobility modder had me up and running in minutes.

    driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php

(Can't link properly yet but copy paste will work)

I'm going to play around with it... it only has three options however.

I'ver read up on it and it seems that it's a common problem with vista SP1 and nvidia... everything installs but blank screen on windows startup (but you hear windows intro them and everything else is normal).

I may just install XP SP3 and forget it :(

In one thread a "hotfix" was mentioned that fixed this, but I haven't been able to find anything.
