I am getting a laptop next year and I want it to basically be a full on desktop replacement. price isn't really an issue (as long as its not "new car" expensive).
The only one I have found that really suites my needs so far is the M18X. Falcon Northwest makes one, but its like eight thousand freaking dollars and it only uses 580's.

I have tried using google to find others, but results have been lackluster.
Do any of you know of any specific laptops other than the M18x that have a dual card setup?

edit: Oops, just realized that this is the wrong forum. If a mod could port this over to the suggest a laptop forum it would be much appreciated!

well clevo will have a model soon and probably by the time you buy your laptop, the have the x7200, and the p270wm but there are some complications with them or something. anyways just keep looking to see if the clevo/sager has come out yet.

also as you may well know the battery life on the clevo machine will be abysmal, the current one uses a desktop 990x hexacore processor and doesnt have optimus or anything so its not the most portable machine, although its a 17" instead of 18".

portability/size isn't really an Issue. I will be getting a good backpack for it and I am 6'3.

Well i agree with aduy that clevo/sager will have a model soon but you can still get good notebooks from sagernotebook.com or go to xoticpc.com although the NP9150 and NP9170 don't have dual graphics card but they still have hd 7970m and the gtx 680m.

ive heard the 680m doesnt work well in the x7200 but thats just one try, afterall the 7970m didnt play well with the em models until the vbios change.

the new 370em is actually VERY small for a dual GPU laptop! if you look at its dimension it has about the same footprint as an asus g74 and is only a little bit thicker

If be wary, if there have been issues with Clevo and new powerful gpu. You would have to have some trust to jump on it right away and hope they ironed out the issues. Is the M18x solid?

sounds like a potential heat issue waiting to happen, either that or loud fans.

From all the research I have done I can gather its extremely solid. Its chassis is made of thick anodized aluminum (same stuff apple uses for their MBP's and airs). Its got beefy CPU and GPU coolers and plenty of space for air flow, is sold by an easily contactable company (Dell) and I can buy up to four years of total accident and electronic malfunction warranty for it. And it also looks sweet as hell.

The only bad thing I have heard so far is that its dual 7970 setup isn't working right, but thats just because of driver issues which are the fault of AMD.

It is expensive though, and if I can find something else that works as well at a lower price with an equally solid warranty, I might go with that instead, even if it doesn't look as cool.

If people could post specific reputable links that would be helpful. Some of these models are giving me sites in Chinese or sites that look like their from the 90's...

    Thank you!

Hmmm. Any word on when the Malibal 9 series will be getting the Nvidia 600 series or the AMD 7970's?

its an x7200 and well it doesnt play well with the 680m and the 7970m would need to have the vbios modded for it to work correctly, so it may be some time before they offer that, but as you said you have time to kill. personally i would wait until the release the p370em or whatever so its the newest technology. 990x is good and all, its just older at this point, and still too expensive.

    Yeah i guess.
By the time I am getting my laptop Nvidia will likely be about ready to release the 700 series anyway.

Haswell should be making an appearance around then to...
