    Hello guys.
I have been out of the computer scene for a good 4months due to traveling and and now back and looking for a new notebook. I do not know much of what has happened in the last few months but I found the 8800M came out.

I know alienware have a 15.4" notebook with an 8800GTX but would was wondering if anyone has heard or seen anything about other manufactures releasing a 8800M in a 15.4" notebook?

Thanks for all your information guys.

    actually....
rumors says that Clevo might have a 15.4" trump card that could debut at CeBit 2008.

I cannot confirm yet... but it would be interesting if it appears. :)

I personally would be surprised if the m15x happens to be the first and last 15" with an 8800M GTX in it. I mean, AW would have had a tougher time trying to get everything to fit in there than normal, but this isn't the Manhattan Project here -- if AW could do it, surely any other laptop manufacturer could.

I would take Gophn's advice and wait a couple weeks to see if Clevo comes out with that computer

If the 9600M GT comes before summer, and it is up to the 9600GT, we might not really see a 8800M in another 15'' imo

Thank you very much to all that replied.

I will wait a couple of weeks and if not, then the new macbook pro might be an option with 512mb 8600GT.

I would love an alienware notbook but it is about $800 out of my price range.

CeBIT 2008 is happening in the middle of March.

The previous CeBIT debuted the Clevo M570RU and D900C. :)

and is the 9500/9600 even out yet?

9600 GT isn't comparable to the 8800 GT but would probabaly compare well with 8800 GTS

9500m GT is on par with 8600m GT

how is it that you'll get a mbp, but the alienware is out of your price range? personally, I'd wait until the lower-spec m15x's come out... it will end up being cheaper than the mbp.

personally, I got the m15x w/ a 2.2 ghz processor, the 8800gtx, 160 gb drive, and 1 gig of ram (upgraded to 2 gig by myself for 40 bucks) for $2,300. The MBP starts at $1999.

Why would a 15,4" need such a GPU anyways? Isn't it pure overkill for powering such a screen?

    Not if you have a 1680 x 1050 screen.

depends on res and quality of screen, if you have a bad screen with low res, then it isn't worth it, however if you have a decent screen with a good res (1440x900 or higher) then it is worth it since you'll be able to play almost all games with all the eye candy.

I wouldn't be surprised if other manufacturers came out with their own 15.4" 8800M laptops, but tbh even though Clevo make good laptops, I wouldn't really trust them with such an endeavor. their 17" with 1, 8800M is very noisy with lots of fans on most of the time, and their idea of updating it to handle penryn was adding another fan instead of looking at a better passive system that would have been much better (larger heatsink for eg, since its very small). So although they will probably be 2nd to put an 8800M in a 15.4" based on previous experience it could be extremely noisy, either that or just as expensive as AW's and given the choice between the 2, I'd go with AW every time.

That problem has come and passed. So its not an issue anymore.

And that was only one model (M570RU)... the other models did not have any issue like that.

Sorry, I should have given more information. I am in Australia and companies just love screwing us over on prices.

anyway, a macbook pro with the 512mb 8600 is about $3,000 with discount. and the m15x is $4210.

wow...wow that sucks about the prices in Australia...

the Sager/Clevo will probably be good, lots of fans just means it'll keep cool, and OC headroom. If you're looking for a quiet 15.4" with an 8800, you're barking up the wrong tree...

Scorpion, I know how you feel. From Australia also, Alienware are an unbelievable rip-off out here. I can't understand how anyone could buy from them. Configuring an average M15x with the 8800 costs about $4300AU out here. The costing Dell use here and in the US is generally the same, or close enough. Why does Alienware in Australia cost like double it does in the US?

Other companies will release 15" notebooks with the 8800M soon. Their biggest issue is heat management. I was reading a post yesterday, can't remember where or who, but someone said he'd seen an ad in a computer mag from a small boutique maker advertising a 15" notebook with an 8800 gtx. They'll start popping up soon!

Are you absolutely sure about the 9600M gt comming out before summer? i was thinking it comes later, i could and WOULD wait till then, since i want to hook my lappy up to high ress screens later on and therefore the 256 Bus is far superior I heard.

I highly doubt dell would, im expecting Zepto, Asus an clevo to make nb's with 8800s in them. I know for a fact that asus made one with a 8700 if i am note mistaken.

the 8800mGTX isn't gonna be outdone by 9600mGT which is likely to be mid level. only 9800mGTX will surpass it. the 8800mGTX just barely came out, nvidia is not going to make another card this quickly to outdo it this fast.

I think the 9800 GTX is just an overclocked 8800 GTS 512mb (the newer version based on the G92 core) so I think it's really just a scheme to get people to buy more cards, not a whole new generation as you would think.

The desktop 9600 GT is pretty much an 8800M GTS. It has a 256-bit bus, 64 shader units, so I think the only difference is that it's clocked higher. So if a 9600M GT comes out expect it to be about as fast as the current 8800M GTS... which is bloody awesome!

With the 9600M GT built on the G94, is it likely to run cooler than the 8800M GTS? It sounds to me like it's the likely candidate for most people looking for a decently performing 15" notebook in the next few months.
