Something that struck my mind on my way home today. Is there any future for bluetooth multiplayer gaming in laptops? It would be incredibly convenient especially for games like CS or WC3 on the go with friends.

Speed for one should not be much of a problem because my phone can effortlessly transmit ~80kb/s when its 20 feet away from my computer. On the other hand I can see battery use being a problem.

Think about it. It wouldn't require ethernet cables and whoever does drag their wireless routers around to game wirelessly with friends wouldn't have to anymore.

But if for example someone hosts a game in Warcraft 3 wouldn't the person who wants to join have to connect through a wireless router? It's not like your laptop can radiate a WiFi signal for everyone to see, its not a router.

Go into the properties of your wireless adapters, go in the "wireless network" tab. Click on "add" preferred network enter how you want to call it and set up encryption if you want and check the "this is an ad-hoc connection"... I suggest that every one of you set their adapters to a fixed ip....

All card can act ad-hoc, but most of them CAN'T be an AP. You need special chipsets that only some cards have (like the ones made by Atheros). I know this from personal experience when i made a Wi-Fi hotspot with my lappy and found out my Intel pro wireless was no good for it.
