I don't think NFS carbon runs on GMA950. Even if you manage to get it loaded somehow, it would be like a sideshow even at 640x480. GMA950 is like 3 or 4 times slower than a desktop FX5700 if you go by 3D marks.

NFS Most Wanted barely plays on a GMA950 (and I mean slideshow barely) and Carbon is more intense I'm sure.

I've played Far Cry on a GMA900 and it was a painful experience I'll tell you. That system had a P-M 750 processor and gig of RAM too.

Far Cry doesn't work on the GMA line. It technically runs, but there are some graphical glitches and the game is slow on the lowest settings.

The only games I've seen working flawlessly on the GMA are older Dx8 titles - Soldier of Fortune 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc. Some newer dx9 ones do work too, like Pariah, Bf Vietnam, etc, but it's very hit and miss really.

There was a FarCry hack that I found (I think on the official website) that got rid of most of the glitches...but you still had to play at really low settings to make it work.

But the general rule of thumb is 2002-2003 and older would probably be okay. After that you need to start asking questions about playability.

If you're asking about gaming and the GMA line in the same thread, you've obviously made some mistake somewhere along the way....

Well, it really depends otak. I used to play on a GMA900, but then I met Oblivion...that's when I purchased my nc8430.

The GMA series are okay for casual gamers that play the oldies and the goodies on the road who don't care about breathtaking graphics performance. But outside of that...I wouldn't say someone made a mistake. It's more like Intel mislead many of us (including me) on the gaming capabilities of this "graphics card."

True, I should probably have used different phrasing. To me 'gaming' or 'gamer' means FPS, WoW, Oblivion, demanding stuff... I guess I'm brainwashed by the gamer media?

When I hear 'Playing Games', that hits me with images of The Sims, Mall Tycoon, etc... stuff that doesn't require a ton of power anyway.

I made a similar mistake with my Satellite A20 three years ago, sure the GPU could run the current games pretty well, but six months later the new games were already slideshows even on their lowest settings.

for me,gaming is just entertainment,i dont need any special requirements such as higher frame per second or detail.Therefor,i need the capability playing most of popular game without the problem :)

Well there a lack of Mapping units in the GMA GPU. It'd be very slow, rendering all those textures and artifacts. I'd say go for an older game.

LMAO I could make Far Cry run on my tablet pc which had at the time 512 MB of RAM, 1.6 Pentium M, and for the love of God, Intel Media Accelerator 845 otherwise known as "Intel Xtreme Graphics 2". It's got so many graphical glitches because of the GPU not being able to put out, but it ran and hell I beat the game running like that because it was the only computer I had at the time XD

    What do you mean by higher ? 5 , 10 ? :p

Of course you might not need higher FPS count, but I think you would appreciate a lower SPF count.(Seconds per frame) :p

You get what I mean ?

If you want to play any new games, I would suggest staying away from the GMA. You can still go integrated and look at systems with the ATi Mobility Radeon x200M/1100 or the nVidia Geforce Go6150. They're integrated solutions that won't be hard on your budget, but you'll still be able to play new games. They won't look great, but if you don't care about that, then you'll be fine.

The system in my signature is a good example of the x200m. Mine has 128 dedicated video memory. Runs World of Warcraft 1440x900 on all low playable 15-25fps normal. Plays FEAR 800x600 most low about the same FPS. Nothing grand but quite playable.

Trouble is, they tend to be on AMD systems, and of course everyone wants core 2 duo these days...

You say that, and yet your avatar looks surprisingly similar to an image from Commander Keen.

And, the GMA950, REALLY loves ram. You can pretty much quadruple your 3D performance by going from 512MB to 2GB of ram. Look on YouTube for videos of the MacBook playing games, there are quite a number of good videos that will paint an accurate picture of the 950's gaming abilities.

FWIW: I don't call any one a gamer unless they play OFP or IL-2, all other games are child's play. :p
