Any games used DirectX 11?
Going to stay with Windows 7, so, this question arise.
-
-
I think only owners of high-end GPU's should wonder about DX 11 usage in newest games.....mid-range cards just won't manage to handle DX 11 good enough
-
Not yet, but when the new ATI series comes out soon I think developers will start to use it in their games.
-
DX10 is not used on a regular basis, I wouldn't be even bother with DX11 at this point in time.
-
I believe DiRT 2 is the first one, that's why it got delayed on the PC.
-
Please don't take any offense, but that's a statement made mostly out of ignorance. Lots of people say it, but DX10 and DX11 are arriving in completely different circumstances.
DX11 has improved on older DX APIs in huge ways. It's more efficient, more streamlined, and more powerful than any previous DX version. DX10 was a slightly junkier than average DX but didn't take off partly because windows vista didn't.
Windows 7 + vastly improved API = developers will adopt this one. I'll call that right now.
Besides, even DX10 cards will see enhancements under DX11. -
forgive me my ignorance, but will a high end card, say a gtx 260m, habdle DX 11 when it says it supports dx 10 ?

I think you need hardware support for DX11 so I don't think DX11 will work on DX10 cards. -
Kinda but not really; certain parts of the API will be accessible to DX10 GPUs, but there are certain hardware aspects that will not be such as Tessellation and Compute Shaders.
-
Yes and DX10 was good too, when used properly, and not just adding visual effects, it performed better than the DX9 counterpart, but everyone decided they had to have the best looking game, and it sort of toppled in on itself.
The hardware is needed first, which we don't have, and even if it is this smash hit, I don't think it will be a medium in the industry for another year at least, 2011 earliest. -
DirectX 11?! What cave have I been living in the last five years or so?
I haven't heard about it, lol. Embarrassing. -

Even though it doesnot have hardware support but it will have lot of advantages while gaming. The GPU will not take full advantage but there is partial advantage for sure. Anyway just for DX 11 preview. Look at this video:

Make sure to turn on HD.

Good links and positive information. LOL.
But it is logic, I got higher benchmarking on Windows 7 with DX 11.
While Windows Vista, I have lower benchmark. Not sure about all these thing. -
Pretty sure thats just CG, I doubt its in game.
-
Ok, but will it be a problem... I mean if I have a dx10 card... then it oculd prevent me from playing to dx11 games, or those will also support dx10 ?
-
I have to agree to agree to a degree. I think DX11 is a good thing and it will hopefully be largely available to DX10 GPU user's as has been totted. But you have to think it will take at least a while for it's proper implementation. And when you look at the fact that next gen consoles are only DX9 equivelent, it will probably not push developer's to use it hugely.
-
Dunno about you, but I usually buy a computer with the intent of using for at least 2-4 years as a primary system. If you are saying industry standard by 2011, that would suggest to me that anyone thinking of getting a new machine now should seriously concider making sure they have DX11 support.
-
That is if it takes off, and im quite sure that DX11 is backwards compatible with the DX10 and DX9 hardware, you wont gain any of its features(well I read you might gain some), but current hardware will still be able to run it(I think?). Some sort of emulation feature.
That is an extremely hopeful estimate, one which I don't think will play through, that's a full year and four months away, and maybe I should clarify, I don't exactly expect it to be the standard for making games, but more so to be implemented into games, just not directly based off of them, mostly like DX10 was.
The more I read it seems to be more of a big deal than DX10, but I still don't think its too much to worry about, at least at this point. -
DX11 is fully backwards compatible software wise; it contains everything that DX9 and DX10 have, so even if you have a DX11 game, you can still play it in DX10. Plus, Vista is DX11 compatible anyway, so there is no reason not to even have it. Its just that some of the hardware features will be unavailable to you if you dont have a DX11 GPU.

Ok now I understand better, thank you, I'm glad I won't be in problems with a clevo m860TU

Announced today ATI's desktop DX11 cards go on sale Sept 22nd in the US and 23rd in Europe.
http://www.examiner.com/x-892-PC-Ga...-ATI-Radeon-HD-5870-hitting-shelves-Sept-22nd
Mobility cards will follow later on using the same GPUs as their desktop counterparts.

DX10 wasn't used because it was a neutered version of what it should have been due to Microsoft, Nvidia and ATI not being able to agree on support for certain features (Nvidia basically flat out said they wouldn't support some DX10 features). DX11 will be bringing back what was cut out of DX10.
Also from what I've read Nvidia's DX11 support will mostly be handled through software and the cards general purpose cores while the ATI cards have had dedicated hardware ready for DX11 features(like tessellation) since when they were supposed to be in DX10. -

I want to see Nvidia come up with DX11.
-
Looks like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat will be one of the first games to use DX11. Can't wait to see what DX11 can do. XD

DX 11 should be nice. been reading about a bit and playing with the DX 11 SDK to see what it's like. Not making much progress, just downloaded all the info tonight.
-
openGL ftw
-
Devs barely use DX10
-
Lol, OpenGL.
-
Thats cuz DX 10 is a neutered dog ( you can thank Nvidia for that ) and DX11 is will DX10 shouldve been.
-
here are some early games using DX11 or will patch to use DX11:
* Aliens vs. Predator (February 2010)
* BattleForge (DX11 patch expected in October)
* DiRT 2 (December 2009)
* S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Call of Pripyat (October 2009)
* Lord of the Rings Online (Q1 2010) -
Damn, guess I'll need to order up a new vid card (desktop).
