Do anyone play games with juse a mouse and keyboard or do you use any PC game controllers? I have read that you can link a 360 controller to a PC which I will most likely do since I'm so used to it. I hate joysticks.. Oh god how i hate joysticks. So does anyone know of any good PC game controllers or should I just stick with a 360 controller. thanks.

Don't think you can connect a normal xbox controller to your pc you'd have to buy a pc xbox controller.
For many games comming out now that's one of the only real plug and play options out there at least what I've experienced with new games (and that should be reason to boycott imo
).
You could however always use xpadder tho when you encounter a problem with your gamepad.
Personally I prefer my ps3 controller (which is easy to install under vista32 under vista64 it's possible too but a little bit trickier) for most games and use xpadder to map the keys when needed (which is too often imo as I said in another thread lol).
Oh and I can't recommend the (sega) saturn usb controller (ebay) enough for fighting games (best controller ever for 2d fighters). -
If you have a 360 controller I would say that is best.
It is plug and play with Vista and you can download the drivers for XP
I play all 3rd person and racing games with this and it has supported them all natively, without any 3rd party app, even older games like NFS MW (which was not Games For Windows)
The reason I use the pad for these games is that I used to play such games all my life on my PS2 so I feel more comfortable with it
Hope this helps -
You can use a wired xbox controller, you just have to download a driver. I have another friend that uses a controller and when we play CoD4 in cage match, I always take a massive dump on him. The mouse and key board are much faster, but the controller is more, like the feel to some people.
-
I find that for FPS mouse + keyboard is the best, but for 3rd person (prototype, dead space etc.) and racing games I prefer the pad
-
You can use wireless 360 controllers as well with the PC.
You just need to buy a USB wireless transmitter for the controller. -
Buy an Xbox!
-
360 Controller is hands down the best. Especially if you're used to it.
I use it for all my games except Dawn of War 2.
Works just like the 360 for Fallout/Gears of War and GTA:4 -
Get a ps2 usb adapter and purchase a wireless ps2 controller and your good to go! I prefer playing with the ps2 controller with street fighter 4 comes out!
-
thats what i use. i only use my controller for racing games.

Xbox 360 controller is IMO the best overall.

Bah rather use my PS3 controller, which I havent gone back to yet used it in 32 bit. Currently using an MX Revolution Mouse for FPS and for racing games and devil may cry 4 using a Logitch Playstation style game pad.
Really the only thing that gets me on the 360 controller is, people swear the displaced analog stick is more comfortable. While its a more natural position having used the sticks in the PS style config for over 10 years switching now is like relearning how to drive all over again. Controlling your fingers movement is different and pushing up and left puts more tension on my finger then im used to. -

Well your used to the other controller, so it makes sense.
I never had an issue getting accustomed to any controller except the original xbox large ones, those sucked
Best controller ever was dreamcast
Well actually take that back, it has memories but the best is the Wii/Nunchuck combo. Its way more ergonomic letting you split your hands and also it has the motion and tilt sensors. -

EH only used a dreamcast once wasnt impressed. BUT the one thing i did like, and 360 and sorta PS3 have it now is the triggers/trigger style L/R buttons.
I was impressed with the design and comfort of the original ps controller over Nintendo and the like, was a natural stepup. I always hated sega controllers trying to mimic arcade controls.
Ill tell you what a fun controller to try and actually play a game with is:
Worst controller ever is the Three Handed N64 Controller...... -
I use a Wireless Xbox360 controller, with headset on mine.
If you have a Wireless Xbox360 controller already, all you'll need to get is the Microsoft Wireless Gaming Receiver. Works great. -
360 contoller hands down. and nintendo rocks!! -
The 360 controller is good for fps, but mouse and keyboard is better of course. But when it comes to fighting and racing games ps2 controllers are better.
-
I agree, Xbox 360 controller is the best ever IMO
I use it on a lot of non FPS games on my PC, its great for Prototype!
I prefer the wireless version since I already had one, and wires suck anyways, here is the wireless dongle ($20) you will need to use a wireless 360 pad.

Or the bundle $55

I'd like to try out using the PSP as a controller, sounds interesting, especially if you could hack it to show your temps, resources monitoring, etc on it's screen..........ooh......that'd be nice whether you use it to control your PC or not
-
360 cont ftw! Get the crossfire wireless reciever.
I quite liked nin64 controller.
I want to know about this hacked PSP controller, me want
-
True dat
Temps simply by looking down
Wicked !!! -
Best controller would be a ps3/saturn hybrid directional pad from the saturn and the analog from ps3(or even xbox)
oh and once again the sega saturn controller is the best controller ever
the analog controller you could get with Nights was awesome too imo.
It depends what kind of games you play fps the best is keyboard and mouse, fighting games sega saturn, platform/action (3d) I'd say ps controller but I m a bit biased cause I've used it a lot. -
Logitech Cordless Action Controller PS2 Gamepad.
-
I also have a saitek p2600
kind of a dualshock knock off but it's quite good imo -

I have one of those, it worked at the time as a budget controller but cant hold a candle to the 360 controller.
Some games wouldnt let me use the analog the way I wanted too on it, I guess in retrospect I maybe could have fixed that by using a mapper software. -
I use mapper software exclusively nowadays cause many game don't like other game controllers anymore hit the brick wall with deadspace/silent hill: homecoming/prince of persia/protoype and prolly more lol.
Using the ps3 controller is nice tho was a bit of work to set up in vista 64 but it's worth it. -
I think the 360 controller is put together very well. I have a plug & play adapter VIA USB. It charges the controller while its connected to the Xbox. Couldn't I just use that adapter and install drivers for the 360 controller to work on a PC?
-
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
For the most part I would say KB/Mouse is the best on PC. But depends on the game. Some 3rd person games I think might work a little better with a controller if that's what you really like. But FPS and RTS type games, KB/Mouse is unparalleled.
So having said that I bought a cheap Saitek controller from FutureShop for $5 when it was on sale, lol. Works fine imo. It has all the buttons and a rumble feature too. I use it on Dead Space (my 2nd time through it) just to compare to the KB/Mouse I used the first time through. It's ok, as said for 3rd person games a controller is ok. But that's it imo. -
as much as i like the 360 controller. You are right in regards to RTS. RTS games are horrible using a controller the precision just isn't there. For first person shooters, i like the mouse but I really don't care for the KB.
-
I use Logitech Chillstream, very very good controller. Better than the original Xbox one. Only using it for Hawx and GTA IV on my PC. Else I run with mouse and keyboard which I am used to.
Any good PC Game controllers out there?
