Ah yes the Dolphin emulator!! both a Gamecube and Wii emulator :D great stuff but requires quite the power (not the power you'll need.. 7970M CrossFire  )

Also Mame, Supermodel 3, Model 2. But i agree the most demanding are PCSX2 and Dolphin. Those two really will put ur system under test.

Dolphin needs a faster cpu, not a huge monster gpu mate :)

As pcsx2, it totally relies on CPU power and clockspeed.

Lets say that if youre looking to achieve 60fps in Wii and Gamecube games, u need at least a 4ghz cpu. Either a desktop cpu capable of (i5 2500/2500k or i7 2600k and later) or 2920xm/2960xm above 3,8ghz.

Otherwise it will do fine with lower cpus as well, but it will cripple itself in some instances.

oh sorry I must have expressed myself wrong :p said it requires but didn't state which power (CPU yes as you said) which is why I said not the power he'll need as in even though he has 7970M CrossFire and it's cool and all it's not something that will help him run it haha
    - he has a 3610QM, it should do well :) my Core 2 Duo overclocked to 3.4GHz plays Dolphin well.. kinda anyways, great answer!!

Yea the Dolphin runs great on a highly clocked Dual Core.

I am currently playing Zelda Twilight Princess @ 1360x768 with better textures and No Bloom mod.

Game looks wayyyy better than on the Wii and plays smoothly on an x9100 OC'd to 3.2 Ghz. (can go to 3.4 but 3.2 runs perfectly well).

You rip them from your own games legally as backups.

Just was taking a look at this. I was wondering where I go to find the software to rip the games. Have around 50 ps2 games and a bunch of ps1 games such as suikoden 2 I'd like to backup and play on my new system when i get it (monday). Considering the ps2 emulator is cpu intensive will my soon to be 3720 cpu run it ok?

The Ps2 emulator version that makes use of Quad Cores offers a much better performance in some games but I don't think it has reached the official build yet. As Ive said before, that feature allowed me to play the GOW titles at full speed.

Anyways, I'm still curious how you guys rip PS2 games. I always use my PS2 disc to play.

I know it's an AMAZING game. Hard to believe but it's on the level of Ocarina of Time, quality wise. Just got done with the Goron boss and I got overwhelmed with a feeling of nostalgia for that particular feeling Zelda games used to give me as a kid. The way music is implemented in the Boss battles and in general is just beyond stellar, brought tears of joy to my eyes :)

I use Dolphin 3.0 build 600 right now and to improve textures I use the ZTP Hack that's available within the Dolphin emulator. Just right click on the title of the game and the option is on a checkbox.

You can put your Ps2 Disks into your PC and use a program like CloneCD to extract the disk into an ISO and then use that in the emulator.

Ah, thanks. I also googled that you need to use ESR Disc patcher if you plan to Clone the DVD physically.

    Thanks btw

I cloned my Spiderman 2 PS2 disk without any problems (I do have Slysoft AnyDVD always running in the background). I doubt that had anything to do with it working / extracting so easily though. I didn't patch anything.

You most likely have improper settings because I have played a lot of the FFX series at 50+ fps. You might want to download the latest PCSX2 SVN version to take advantage of Quad Cores. The current one only uses two Cores.

Edit: Just found my FFX Disk, I get 60 fps most of the time with occasional brief frame drops to 50fps at the start of some dialogue.

Yes, final performance on a PC is 50% actual hardware and 50% optimization/tweaking. Even with a CF monster like that you can end up with low fps if you don't take the time to set it up correctly and do some optimizations on your system.

Will the 3610QM be OK for using PCSX2? I'd only be using it to play Kingdom Hearts.

Yea, I played Kingdom Hearts 2 full rez on pcsx2 with my x9100 with very few slow downs spots, otherwise very smooth. With the 3610QM you should have no problem whatsoever.

Just make sure you enable the recommended speed hacks that are suggested in the config menu as well as the MTVU checkbox. Even without those settings, performance shouldn't be that low though.
