Well, since the fall of 08, PC gaming industry, to me, has been nothing but disappointment. First, Call of Duty was a big let down with its incredibly short campaign, and the multiplayer is just like the previous version. Then I played Fallout 3 right after getting stuck on Oblivion, and absolutely hated how they are all alike. And I hate storylines like that (for example, Fallout series, Bioshock, etc). I absolutely in no way can stand their supposed-to-be-Utopian society. I absolutely hated those games. Sure, war games like CoD, Tom Clancy games, C&C games, and other games all involve politics, but it's not those annoying as those Fing Utopian society like that in Bioshock and Fallout. Then NFS Undercover presented nothing but an easy drive around town. Crysis Warhead still ran like crap, and Farcry 2 did as well... not to mention GTA4. I was wondering, is there anything worth playing coming out any time soon?

Hard to please much? I don't play those games because they just aren't my cup of tea. But it seems like most of the games you mentioned scored very well on most game sites I have been on. It all depends on what you like I suppose.
Since you said you played Oblivion, maybe Dragon Age: Origins (roughly end of March), Drakensang: The Dark Eye (end of this month) and Divine Divinity: Ego Draconis (around June, I think) are some really great looking fantasy RPG's that I am looking forward to. I played the Drakensang demo, and it's really pretty cool, but of course, short. Just as I was really starting to get into the game, boom, I reached the end of the demo. Good luck finding something that fits the bill for you. -
Perhaps it's time to get a console?
Anyways, for PC there is Mirror Edge what was recently released on PC, Godfather 2 is being released this month, Empire : Total War, Burnout Paradise (the effin best game to date), FEAR 2, Wheelman.
These are February releases .. anyways, PC lineup is weak this year. Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 sometime in Q3, but that's it. -
-
-
some hopeful titles to look forward to.
Burnout Paradise Feb 2nd
FEAR 2: Project Origin Feb 10th
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II Feb 18th
The Sims 3 Feb 20th
Empire Total War Mar 3rd
Tom Clancy's HAWX Q1
Tom Clancy's EndWar Q1 -
DoW II is fantastic; you can try out the beta if you have Steam installed.
-
Mass effect was incredible to me. No real Utopia setting in the game, either.
-
As ryo1000 already mentioned Tom Clancys HAWX due end of Feb and it looks incredible: http://hawxgame.uk.ubi.com/
certainly one for my shortlist...... -
okay, whoa whoa wow!! I just checked out that HAWX game...omg I think I have been waiting for this game for my entire life! can't wait!
i've been looking around for a good air combat/dog-fighting game, that might make the cut! -
If you haven't played STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl I would recommend it. I liked Oblivion, hated Bioshock, and haven't tried Fallout 3 because it looks too similar to Oblivion. Stalker is actually a game made for PC, which is more and more of a rarity these days. It has some bugs, but at this point most of them have been worked out. It is open-ended and provides some challenging combat, which has gone the way of the Dodo with most FPS games.
I loved the original FEAR, tried the new demo and it has clearly been built for console use. So that is another title down the drain, a huge disappointment, much like FarCry 2. -

I have a console. I'm currently abusing PS2 with some Guitar Hero games. I would buy a PS3 if they were cheaper, and I would buy a 360 if they were not so easily broken.
I'm really looking forward to Empire Total War. Although I really find that the lack of unit variation to be a big downer, I'm still sure that it'll be a great game (like the rest of the Total War series).
And Tom Clancy's games are always good. When is Conviction coming out? -
According to Wiki it's coming October 1st 2009. (Conviction)
Anyways, I would certainly suggest getting either of the next-gen consoles, both are worth their price. But before you purchase, I would recommend to do a research on exclusive games. -
The first rule of games:
We won't know if a game is "good" until we've played it.
Sure, there's Diablo III, Starcraft 2, Alan Wake, Dragon Age, KotORO, and many other high profile games to be released but whether they're good remains to be seen. -
-
What do you mean, do you plan on dropping it?
I've had my 360 since 06' and it's never had a problem..
same with alot of other people I know.
And the main thing that happens is the "3 Red Rings" which is a heating issue and gets fixed free anyway.
PS3 < 360. -
Play Dead Space.
Crysis Warhead and Farcry 2 ran like crap for you because of your 8600. -

well i went through 3 xbox 360's and a buddy of mine went through 2, and no none of us dropped them. however, when mine broke i sent them in with no problems and usually got them back in 3 weeks
-
We've got 3 360's in my house. 2 of them have RROD before, and 1 has twice. They were all taken great care of.
The failures have been admitted by Microsoft, so don't be a total fanboy and act as if they don't have problems because you and a few friends have avoided trouble.
By the same token, although it remains to be seen if the revisions made to the hardware have stopped the failures from occurring, but it does look like it's going to be better than before. -

Bioshock is one of my favorite games. You have terrible taste in games.
-
Duke Nuken Forever should be coming out sometime this decade lol
-
X-Blade seems awesome. Definitely gonna grab it when it comes out soon (02/20)

Well, looks like someone is just bored with gaming in general. Go skydiving? I don't know, but I personally don't think games are going to get much better anytime soon. I also don't think people who are saying to get an Xbox360 are on the right track either. I've gone through 3 of them myself, none "bricked" but one had a drive failure, (was fixed by M$ in 3 weeks), but the games are all kind of boring aside from a few multi platformers. ie, rock band.. and a few classics like Dead rising. But no more good games than the PC or hell even PS3(never owned one).
The crysis games were fun, but that's debatable depending on how powerful your system is, and mirrors edge was cool but waaaay too short. Then there's the bunch of RTS's that have been released in the past years, and fantastic racing sims if your into that. I'm just looking forward to any new splinter cell games, FEAR 2, and SC2. -

There is nothing except few multiplatform games what look very slightly better on X360, but considering all X360 negative sides.
(hardware problems [disk-scratching & overheating], online gaming fee, lack of good exclusives, no Netflix for EU/JP people, no HD-DVD to anyone, expensive MS-only add-on's and the lag in online games (because X360 uses peer-to-peer mostly)
Anyways, I would suggest getting mostly Burnout Paradise as it'll be released in two days. You won't regret the purchase.
Or maybe check some older titles?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

it seems flashy-CnC3 to me -
There hasn't been a good game to come out since Duke Nuke'm Forever.
... oh wait, watching too much LOST. -
i am waiting for empire:total war
and i have v low gaming burget -
I took it to Costco and explained to them them that it no longer worked. The lady simply asked me cash or gift card. I got my $531 back, waited a few months, went back and bought another one for $431.
13 months later the power supply died. Took it back to Costco and the lady asked cash or gift card. Got my $431 back.
I asked her how many times were they going to let me do this. Her answer was basically as many times I want. I asked if they lost anything when an item was returned. She said no. They send the item back to the vendor and get their money back.
I love Costco.
So yes they do break, but when you have a company like Costco standing behind you, it really doesn't matter.
Oh, the one I am buying this weekend will cost me $377.
Regarding cost, its only about $4/mo. Hardly a deal breaker.
EDIT: my gamer tag is kingsnite if anyone would like to add me.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

I'm probably not going to get an advanced console, mainly because 1. I'm a college student, 2. I have a PS2, and 3. I have a crappy none-flat screen TV. So if I got a new console, I will be very tempted to bankrupt myself and buy a new TV.
I'm looking forward to Empire Total War, SC2 and Diablo 2. And I will check out the new Burnout game. And I'm by no means a fan of horror games, but Dead Space seems interesting, I may get that. -
I can't believe no one has mentioned FEAR 2?
It's coming out in a week. -
FEAR 2 definitely. Though it is very console - ified.
Though there are alot of other good games. But there really isn't a good line up for either system this year. Maybe FFXIII and the new Final Fantasy MMO that will be realeased in a few YEARs hopefully. WHo knows. They might announce more games in a few more days for release in the next 2 Q's.
I just hope that crytek announces more CRYSIS - goodness this year. I love crysis games. -
-
I didn't think dead space was all that from reviews (mediocre)
But when I played it, I thought it was wicked and now I am really hooked on it [chapter 3]
It's a great game, and I max it @ 30FPS w/ v-sync
Also, can't wait to get Burnout paradise, and FEAR 2 -
I too am somwhat bored of recent games - i'm traditionally a FPS player. The last games I rated highly were:
1. Far Cry
2. STALKER
Far Cry 2 bores me, Fallout 3 looks cool but also bores me...
I must be getting old -
-
I spend about 85.4% of my gaming time playing FPS'. When I look at a game my interest is solely in its online multiplayer capabilities. I am interested in the variety of multiplayer maps, variety of weapons to chose from, ease of play, and online popularity. I am at a stage where I just want to get online with some friends talk about whatever and dominate the other players online. And of course at the end of the match, rag on the other team until they leave the lobby in shame (this is our preferred approach whether we win or lose the match).
For example, I bought halo 3 shortly after its release date (Sep. 07). I have yet (probably never will) to play through the campaign. After I bought the game, I came home, put it in the 360, and started playing online.
My interest in RPGs has also diminished. After playing Oblivion part way through, I simply got bored. At first I thought it was the character I was playing. I decided to restart the game with a different character and a different approach. No luck. To be completely honest, part of the disinterest in Oblivion was because i felt that Morrowind was a better game.
I still enjoy playing RPGs, but now just the MMO types.
Any good games coming out soon?
