We heard about this card about the same time as the 250's and the 240's were announced and yet while the latter two have started showing up in systems, the 260GTS is curiously absent.

Except for the blurb on Notebookcheck i havent been able to find much if anything online about it and i would really like to know if its actually coming out.

a 38watt card with its level of preformance sounds amazingly tempting :(

And hopefully more chance of GDDR5... Could be good but a gddr5 gts250 is where it should be at - same league as gts260 but most efficient per watt by far

Ok i suppose that does make sense, but where do you think the 250 would rate preformance wise. Would it match closer to say a 9600 card or maybe a 9800gts level?

If it could match a 9800 then i would be willing to consider it then, i want decent power but i would like to keep the power draw down, because the best i figure is 2x 260GTS would produce slightly better capabilities than a 280GTX but would only take the sameish power draw.

gts250 has the same clock speeds as the 9800m gt, same 96 shaders, but 128bit gddr5 vs 256bit gddr3. it should perform similarly. nvidia rates both cards with 360 gigaflops.
28w quoted tdp for this kind of performance is pretty awesome, just wait for asus to put it in a 14'' :)

Yeah that is what got me so excited about these cards. The 200 core seems to be amazingly power efficent for its abilities.

just realised, with the gt300 coming, a gts250 would have less than a fifth of the shaders on a full gt300, 96 vs 512.
remember how 8600gt was flamed for being weak for a mid-range card compared to 8800, 32sp vs 128sp?
this sucks, laptops are still licking boots for desktops.

True, the desktop cards are still destroying the laptop GPUs (though ATI seems to be making large strides to fix it on their end)

I just want a decently powerful card like the 250/260 GTS that could be put in SLI and use less power than a 280mGTX and give as good/slightly better preformance.

These cards should be able to run ice cold and give amazing preformance... i just cant find many places that actually offer them :(

I have read stories of the new 3-- GTX cards being a dead end process.

I hope we dont have to wait too long... i just bought an M17x :( and i would really like to sell the 260GTX cards and replace them with 250/260 GTS cards
(sorry i'm having a bit of buyers remorse)

Yeah i heard that too, something about the core wasnt stable with the shrink. They'll iron it out eventually, but it might be a bit longer lag between new cards than usual

they are still capable cards, and buyer's remorse is just inevitable when you buy computers.
