Any reason why my Dell D630's drive won't read Orange Box?

It doesn't read some burned discs, and i'm fine with that, but why on earth wouldn't it read Orange box? Maybe its trying to discourage me from having games installed on the laptop i normally use for school :p, but it installed BF2142 fine =\

    The drive is a PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P

Well you can work around this, since that runs thru steam and all games you register with your steam account can be downloaded.

Install them on your desktop or something and register them.

Then just download and install steam on your notebook and download the games and install them to play.

well yes I can download the games, but downloading 15 GB of games takes a while not to mention that the reason i'm even installing the games is because i don't have my net connection :p.

I just wanted to be able to read my discs, which hte laptop isn't for some reason. It is just giving me a blank disc as if I threw in a blank disc...

Definitely RMA your drive. An old HP desktop of mine had similar problems start to develop shortly after purchase, and the drive was a brick within a couple years.

Also, you'll need an internet connection to play the games after installing them from the discs anyways. That's one of the necessary(?) evils of Steam.

There is an offline mode for steam. I played portal the other day when the internet at work was not working for me.

Played fine just wont record any achievments.

I would assume the same for HL2 ect. Just not gonna happen for an online game like TF2 obviously.
