It would be crappy to get a new laptop without some new games to try out on it.
I'd quite like a fairly new game that looks decent run on this laptop - http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Acer_As..._inch_HD_TFT_Display_LX.APQ0X.351/version.asp
at decent settings, that would look better than on my current 7600 Go.
I'm thinking maybe the new Hulk game might be fun(I loved Ultimate Destruction on the PS2), but how about some older games I might have missed?
I really liked Oblivion but played it to death. I might buy the GOTY edition if they have any cool extras with it(did this with Morrowind), when it comes out. Any games similar to that, that I can pick up for fairly cheap; I've been distressed at the lack of Elder Scrolls clones. Anything that involves wandering around large areas and interacting with characters would be great, preferably with more interesting dungeons than TES(god do they get repetitive) to make up for the inevitable smaller game world.
Personally I get tired of all the POST APOCALYPTIC type games, so I'd rather keep away from those(which is most PC, 360 and PS3 games). I rather enjoyed Bioshock for the Steampunk-ish setting, and of course the TES for being more nature based.

The recently released Devil May Cry 4 demo has 8 pages of discussion devoted to it and the screenshots don't look half bad. Try the demo out and see if it's to your liking.
-
Orange Box should be on your 'to get' list.
Basically it's 5 games for the price of one.
Since you liked Oblivion, you could try Neverwinter Nights 2 w/ it's expansion Mask of the Betrayer.
Spore will be THE NEXT big one to come out. Probably in the fall.
If you have any other questions let me know. I've played 'em all! -
I had the first Neverwinter Nights and I wasn't that fond of it. Most of those kind of games I'm not that fond of, it reminded me a bit of Icewind Dale. I really need character driven I guess. Unless NW2 is amazingly different.
Have the Orange box, guess I really should play HL2! Only problem is I don't know where I put the CD and since I'm changing Laptops I can't just copy it over thanks to STEAM. -
The most character driven classic RPG I can think of is the incredibly dated Planescape:Torment and none of the recent RPGs can compare in storyline or character development.
I played the Witcher for a good 3 months when I finally got it though, it's compelling enough to play once I configured it properly. -
Fallout 3 will be released also.
Devil May Cry 4 is out...
Other games? http://pc.gamespy.com/index/release...lease_date=2008&constraint.return_all=is_true ... -

Maybe check DMC4 Preview
-
I have a 10Gig a month limit, it's the only connection I can get here that's marginally better than ISDN. That would take days and take a huge chunk out of my usage. -
The Eurozone is slated to get DMC4 on the 11th of July while Japanese gamers will get their localized version on the 24th of the same month. Most people should be content with the demo for now.
-
I'm really surprised that fighting games like DMC continue to be popular. I thought that was a 1990's fad?
-
OR you could go to your local video game store and buy a retail box version of the orange box, which includes dvd's. that way if u move to another computer all youy really need to do it install ~ 200mb of updates. -
-
Uhh there's lots of games I'm looking forward to purchasing and adding to my collection:
- Starcraft 2
- GTA IV
- Fallout 3
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
- Half Life 2 EP 3
- Half Life 3??
- Mafia 2
- Spore
- Prototype
- C&C Red Alert 3
hehe, better start saving for fall! -
Just copy the "Steamapps" folder over to your new computer. There, problem solved.
Connect the two computers using a LAN cable, then transfer the Steamapps folder. It should only take 5 mins, and won't use your internet connection at all.
Install Steam on your new computer, then replace the original Steamapps folder with your old one. Steam will scan the folder, and you're done. -

Damn I wish GTA IV was coming out soon. But it generally takes a year or so.
-
Mass Effect, if you haven't played it for 360. Looks fantastic on PC. Well, except for the hair, but I was spoiled by HL2: EP2.
-
Definately Starcraft 2, and Mass effect 2 is already on the making, probably coming out early next year.
-
I just wish there was some real epic like Oblivion.
-
Instead, play some games that are good that were released the last couple of years. Chances are they play very smooth on your system, and you will in fact find better games
-
If you like Oblivion. You'll like Mass Effect.
-
Are there any decent games involving mecha/giant robots? Something like a modern mechwarrior. I love that kind of stuff.
Apart from that, I tend to like alternative fantasy, i.e. no generic LoTR/D&D stuff. Most console RPGs tend to be alternative fantasy, whereas on PC most are more generic(TES is pretty good though).
Any decent FPS that aren't the more post apocalyptic sort of stuff - I might give Crysis a go(actually I never got very far in Far Cry). I don't mind some decent war based games, I'm not a big military nut but I kind of like the settings and the weapons. I liked the 90s "Build" based FPSes like Duke, Blood, and Shadow Warrior.
I also like anything with a kind of gothic theme, though we haven't seen much of that since the 90s/early 2000s. Heck even Doom 3 didn't have itEven the game series called "Gothic" doesn't.
-
here's my suggestion.
The Witcher. RPG, fantasy, and sort of has a gothic theme.
And Dracula:Origin (gothic?) just came out a couple of days ago, the graphics isn't all that great. you can give it a try.
if you like giant robots, try Universe at War, but that's a RTS.
and The Sacred 2 is coming out, i heard that walking from one end of the map to another without doing anything else would take 6 hours -
I'm getting C&CRA3 just for the japanese mecha units... though it kind of sucks, they look a bit more western in some ways, I'd rather them look a little more elegant and Gundam like(or more realistic like VOTOMS or Knightmare Frames). I'll let it past because they look sort of like Patlabour mechs.
-
hehe i wished they released more of maffia 2 boy i loved maffia 1 !!! at that time it was way better then GTA3 better story better graphics better everything
-
Really GTA IV would be great. I'm thinking of getting the Gemstone blue with the 9500 - do you think when it's released(and it will be), I'll be able to play it at low to mid detail? How long do you think it'll last. I'll be getting a 360 when MGS4 comes out for it but the PC version would be more exciting I think.
-
-
MGS4 for PC... double giggle giggle.... -
WTF, MGS4 was pretty much suggested for 360 for ages ago. Plus it's not unprecedented to get MGS games on other consoles. And I was talking about GTAIV on the PC, which will occur if the last few are anything to go by.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
what would be great is if gran turismo 5 came out on the pc.
could totally happen. 15% chance of rain. the dev mentioned it as a possibility. people would buy that like crazy. everyone has been waiting for a pc gran turismo for about... forever. -
But GTA4 on PC would be wonderful!... I friggin hate trying to aim something with the controllers -
-
MGS4 on X360 would be aweful
if its going 360 then why not the the PC? i mean many PC gamers were loyal to the MGS Franchise for long time, like me for example, but couldnt get a next gen console.
-
. GTA was made for the consoles.
-
Given the 360 is as powerful as the PS3 I don't see how it'd be "awful". The specs required to run a PC port would no doubt be quite "awful" as I can see them rushing it.
-
Decent Ports arent Impossible..
-
-
6 or 7
considering MGS4 was SUPPOSED to take full advantage of the space of blue ray disks, very big textures
-
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
Prototype looks great from what i have seen i hope they dont mess it up it has a lot of potential
