I know it's not a powerful card but I find it odd that sometimes it pauses during movie playback. Is there any way to mess with the settings and increase its performance? I remember with the Nvidia 7150, I was able to change the video memory via BIOS...obviously I can't do that with the 4500 but is there something else I can change to get better performance?

And I should mention that I'm mostly referring to online movie playback, so it's not an issue with codecs or media players. My internet connection is very fast and it works great on my 9600M GT but the Intel 4500M pauses a LOT and sometimes doesn't even recover.

One thing I noticed on my intel X4500MHD is that the power management is defaulted to save power. Go into your graphics properties. Under one of the sections is a "Power Management" button. Make sure the dial is set to "Power savings disabled" I don't remember which one but it's defaulted to some power save option.

Edit: sorry my instructions are so vague. i don't have my laptop with me right now. If you need more detailed instructions, I will let you know in a few hours. I watch hulu, youtube, cnn, etc. I never have a problem with lagging or freezing or anything. runs perfect. i'd be happy to let you know any configuration settings I have. Let me know

Thanks! Mine was set on Custom. I'm gonna give this a try.

Does anyone know of any other tweaks to increase performance with the 4500M?

Have you tried setting the Driver Memory Footprint option to "High"? In addition to that, can you check if your antivirus utility has an autoscan function that performs scanning when it detects low cpu activity? I believe that you have Intel Clear Video technology which puts your processor into a low power mode which may be triggering the scan function.

I just set the Driver Memory Footprint option to high. What exactly does that do? And I don't have an anti virus utility on the laptop yet so no scanning occurs.

Yeah I got the latest drivers from Intel but I haven't tried any other drivers yet.
